After the funeral, Dan and Phil split.
They left each other, too pained to be able to even think of happy endings together.
All the memories they shared, they were just lost in the wreckage of Hailey's death, the destruction of Dan's humanity. Neither of them wanted this, they were two kids in love, all they wanted was perfection and fairytale endings. They lived on without each other. Phil hopped on a bus to move back in with his family, while Dan moved straight to America, unable to stop the pain.
They both went away.
Dan's last words to him had made him feel worse than anything.
"None of this would had happened if you hadn't approached me under those damned city lights."
