What I hate most and cannot stand about books is when the characters are always perfect, and have no flaws.
What's even worse is when it's insisted that such character does have a flaw, but it affects them in no real way that achieves a goal in the plot.
A flaw only counts as a flaw if it affects the characters' relationships in a major way, or if the character is achieving a given goal.
Mary Sue's are boring, and lack dimension being entirely perfect. Give them flaws that actually count for something.
