You've got your demons, and darling, they all look like me

It's May. It's the time of year when everyone is happy, although this May, Serenity may be carrying way more on her hands than she's capable of. That aside, she hasn't seen Klaus for two months and she immensly misses the company of him. Funny how she now wears on her sleeves the utmost respect for him, even funnier how she has never wanted to keep anyone she's only briefly met in her life so much until now.

Serenity sat in the Grill, sipping on a cool glass of water. She missed him. He said he'd return last week but she hasn't heard from him. He told her he was visiting family. She felt a tap on her shoulder, and turned around. And there he was. Klaus Mikaelson.

"Klaus! Oh my-oh my gosh!" She beamed, and jumped out of her seat and swung her arms around him. "I missed you."

"I missed you too, Serenity. Were you busy?" Klaus asked.

"Yes. Far too busy to even contemplate having a conversation with you." She winked, playfully.

"Ah, I see... Too unworthy of my acquaintance, then? Forgive me for taking up so much of your time." He smiled.

"All is forgiven."

A few tables to the right, sat Elena Gilbert, Stefan Salvatore, Bonnie Bennet and Damon Salvatore.

Damon raised an eyebrow, "she has no idea. What an idiot." He rolled his eyes.

"You think someone should tell her? He could just be using her as a human blood bag.. I think she could be in danger." Bonnie bit her lip and frowned, looking over at the couple.

"Excuse me, love." Klaus said to Serenity, and walked over to where the gang was sat. "Any of you say one word to her, you can say goodbye to your precious little hearts. I will rip them from your heart before you have the chance to object. Are we clear?" Klaus said, angrily.

"Does she know where you were when you were 'visiting your family'? More like trying to create a pathetic hybrid army." Damon stood up, tapped Klaus on the arm and walked out of the Grill. The rest of them stood up and followed him.

Serenity walked over to Klaus, "What was that about?" she asked, suspiciusly.

"Nothing, Serenity." He said coldly.

The next couple of weeks were a blur. Serenity and Klaus spent endless days outside of bakerys and inside of bookstores, unintentiolly catching the attention of bypassers. There were days in which they sat in comfortable silence, doing absoloutely nothing but starin into each others eyes. They enjoyed each other's presence in the simplist of ways. They found themselves very drawn to one another.

On a lazy Sunday afternoon, lay by the bank next to the river, Klaus and Serenity enaged in deep conversation.

"Why?"

"Why what?" Serenity looked at Klaus, frowning. Confused. Klaus's eyes studied her, carefully.

"Why do you build walls?" She shrugged his question off.

"I don't..."

"Yes, you do."

"No. Klaus. I don't."

"Why do you?" She started to get angry.

"Because it's easy, okay? Blocking people out is like a second nature to me. Nobody honestly knows what goes on in my head and I don't know who I can blame for it. I'm not whether I maybe watched too many Disney movies revolving around the good princess life," She half smiled. "But it's just. It's gotten into my head how I'll never find that happy ending." Klaus stared at her with wide eyes, looking as intigued as ever. "Until you came along. I'm finally able to open up to someone. and I wasn't ready because human beings aren't exactly entitled to happy endings. In reply to your question, I like building walls. It keeps out hope, as well as people."

"You don't have to feel hopeless, anymore. Serenity." Klaus whispered.

-

Serenity closed her front door behind her. A billion thoughts racing through her mind, and after the hours slowly passed, she heard a knock on her door. She opened it and...

Damon Salvatore.

"Uhm... Do I... Do I know you?" She tilted her head to the side. He half smiled and raised his eyebrow.

"No. Invite me in?"

"Oh... sure. Would you like to come in?"

He smiled. "I'd love to." He sat down on her couch. "Now, lets talk about your boyfriend."
