Before going to bed, Madie's mother goes to her room and gives her that familiar sunflower and note.

"Dylan dropped by a while ago. He wanted me to give you this. Sorry, I read the note. I could not help it" says her mom apologetically.

"It's okay, mom" she replies.

"It also came with this"

Her mom hands her an olive green box around half a foot in size. "I didn't open it", she chimes.

"I believe you, mom"

"Madie, as I've said before, you have our blessing if you want to be with him again. If you want him out of your life forever, that's also fine. I will support your decision no matter what. For the record, I believe you two are soulmates."

"You do? What if I decide to quit on him? Do you think I will regret it?"

"Even if you choose to be with a different guy, I trust that you know exactly what you are doing. You will not pick someone who cannot make you happy. Do not overthink, baby. Let your heart and mind agree on your next step. Just sleep for now. Goodnight, baby girl."

Madie realizes how her parents think alike with all this heart and mind agreeing advice. She wants to have a partner like that, too. Could it be Ethan, Dylan, or someone entirely different?

She opens the box and finds pieces of her lost memories inside it. There are polaroid pictures of her and Dylan making silly faces at different places with dates written at the bottom, concert tickets, movie tickets, museum tickets, a disposable spoon with a smiley drawn on it, post-it notes, a pen, a highlighter, bookmarks, dried flowers and a letter.

Madie's heart swells. She may not remember the history of these trinkets but she remembers how much they love each other.

She reads the letter.

My dearest Alex,

I'm going home to Melbourne to recharge. I don't know how long it will take. A week, a month, maybe a year? But, do not think this is giving up because it is not. I will only let you go if you tell me to. I'm sending you our memories. I believe it's time you have them back. If you are up for a history lesson, you know how to reach me.

I love you always,

Your Seb

P.S. Someday, when we meet again, I'll marry you.

"So I walked back to my room and collapsed on the bottom bunk,

thinking that if people were rain,

I was drizzle and she was hurricane."-J.Green

Madie types in her phone.

Disposable spoon? ☺
