I, Paige Summers, was walking out of class on the last day of school when I met him. Him, as in Nolen Richards. Nolen's a smart kid. Most people refer to him as a 'dork' or 'nerd.' But I hate labels so I just call him by his name. He was walking down the hall when a group of girls came down the hall and tripped him. They kicked his books and papers around and created a seen. People laughed at pointed at poor Nolen. I have to do something, anything! I thought to myself. I marched over and bent down to help Nolen pick up his things. "Are you alright?" I asked.

Nolen looked at me in surprise. "Um... yes, thanks."

"I'm Paige, by the way." I said.

One of the girls who tripped Nolen glared down at me. "Paige, your such a loser for helping him." She said bitterly.

"I'm only doing the right thing." I replied.

The girl didn't expect that. "What did you say to me?"

I looked up at her and grinned. "Nothing, your just a bitch and have no boundaries." I smiled sarcastically. "Bye-bye."

Her lips curled into a frown and she stormed away with her minions right behind her.

Nolenlooked at me amazed. "T'thank you so much... Paige." He smiled a little bit. "I'm Nolen."

"I know, and don't mention it." I said handing him the rest of his books. "Are you sure your not hurt or anything?"

He pushed his glasses up on his nose. "No, I think I'm OK."

I smiled sweetly at him. "Good." I stood up then reached my hand out. Nolen took it and stood up next to me. He was a tall boy. Not very muscular though. His hair was long, bushy, and curly. His beautiful green eyes were hidden by his huge, bulky glasses. With some work, he could be pretty hot.

"Can I ask you something?" I looked at Nolen hard.

"Yeah?" He replied.

I took his arm and dragged him outside. "How would you like it if over the summer I gave you a make-over?"

Nolen didn't look to sure. "Um... I'm a dude. Why would I need a make-over?"

"So you don't get made fun of." I answered. "I'd change up your hair, get you contacts, some new clothes." I paused to let him think. "I wouldn't let you down."

He just stared at me confused for a minute. "Is this a joke?"

"N-no, not at all, why?" I said smiling. "I promise, I'd make you totally date-able by next school year."

"Promise?" Nolen asked with a small smile.

I nodded. "Promise." I stuck out my pinkie finger. We shook pinkies and smiled at each other. "We'll start on Saturday. Be at my house by noon but no earlier than 10." I said. "Sound OK?"

Nolen nodded.

"See you then." I said as I started walking home.

"Bye, Paige!" Nolen waved as he got in his car. Just then, some big, buff dude walked up to him and cracked a few eggs on his head. Nolen stood there and let the egg drip down his face, into his glasses, and all over his clothes. I heard chuckles from other guys behind his car. I cringed and ran over to help Nolen.

I giggled. "They just don't stop do they?"

He shook his head. "Nope."

"Stay right there. I'll run inside and grab paper towels." I started sprinting into the building. I grabbed as many paper towels as I could then ran back outside. Nolen was standing in the same place except more egg was dripping off him. I guess the guys came back. "Sorry." I said, out of breath.

Nolensmiled. "Your fine. I'm just glad somebody's helping me out for once."

"Your welcome." I started cleaning some of the egg off of his shirt. I moved onto his face and glasses then his hair. "Wow, this is taking longer than I thought!" I laughed. Nolen was almost all cleaned up. "Are you OK?"

He nodded. "I'm good. This happens all the time."

I finished getting the egg out of hair and then smiled. "On the bright side, you hair's shinny."

Nolen laughed. "Thanks, I guess."

"OK, I'll see you on Saturday." I said as by good-bye.

"Yeah." He nodded.

I waved and started walking away.

"Wait, Paige!" Nolen called after me. "Do... Do you want a ride home? I can take you."

I smiled. "Sure. That would be great." I hopped into the passenger side of Nolen's car and he started driving me home.

I broke the silence in the car. "Why do people tease you so much?" I asked.

Nolen shrugged. "I don't know. Because of the way I look and dress. Plus I'm smart and I'm just quiet at school and shy."

"But your such a nice guy!" I exclaimed. "I guess people are too busy judging to realize that."

"Your great too, Paige." He said. "I can't believe you helped me out."

I smiled. "I'm very unpredictable."

Nolen nodded. "So where do you live?"

"On the west corner of Mason Avenue. It's off of Culver Street." I answered.

He lit up. "I live on Grand Avenue."

Grand Avenue was one street north of Mason Avenue.

"That's great!" I smiled. "Have you always lived there?"

"No. I used to live near the mountains but we had to move when... the economy got bad." Nolen got quiet all of a sudden. "Have you always lived on Mason Avenue?"

I nodded. "Yeah, I was born and raised in that house."

Nolen pulled up on to the curb outside my house. I picked up my bag and opened the car door. "Thank you so much!" I said happily. "Be here between 10 and 12 on Saturday."

"Yeah, yeah. I know." He joked.

I waved. "Bye, Nolen!"

Nolen started driving away. "Bye, Paige." He honked his horn then sped down the street.

I smiled to myself. This was going to be an interesting project.
