"Before Sunset"

I was driving down the road, glad to finally leave Mystic Falls behind.

My phone rang. I glanced at it seeing it was Rebekah, sighing in annoyance. "Perfect" I murmured, answering the call, "I'm driving, darling. I don't want to cause an accident"

"Get back to town, now" Rebekah told me "We have a problem"

I frowned "Can't you resolve it alone? I finally left behind that dreadful town that caused us pain"

"Alaric Saltzman is alive" Rebekah's answer had my amusement evaporating.

"Didn't your mother kill him?" I asked in confusion

"Apparently no" Rebekah answered, sighing "He showed up at school with an Oak stake. He tried to kill me and Caroline"

"Well, that's not good" I replied, "Are you okay?"

"Yeah, yeah, I am fine" Rebekah answered "But that's not the point, Klary. We tried to kill him with the Oak stake"

"Problem resolved then" I told her, rolling my eyes "I don't get why you're calling me. He should be dead again"

"That's the thing. He didn't die" Rebekah stressed. My eyes widened "Mother did something that doesn't allow him to die"

"Wait. So you're telling me even after death your mother still found a way to screw us over?" I asked in disbelief

"Yes" Rebekah snapped "Now get back here"

"I'm in the middle of the road, Bekah" I pointed out, "I can't return"

Rebekah stayed quiet for a moment, "You're family, family is supposed to be there for each other, always and forever, Klarysse"

I closed my eyes briefly, groaning "Ugh. Don't guilt trip me, Rebekah" I hung up, staring at the road for a few seconds before rolling my eyes, making an U turn, "Ugh, stupid humanity"

I began driving back to Mystic Falls

I parked my car at Town Square, climbing out of the car, walking forward "Rebekah!"

Rebekah turned at the sound of my voice, running up to me and hugging me "You came"

I hugged back, smiling slightly "We're family. We don't abandon each other"

Rebekah pulled away, "We don't"

"So we have an immortal immortal vampire your mother created after us, huh?" I asked with a small smile

Rebekah shrugged, passing an arm around my shoulders as we walked through the park "We've dealt with worse, don't you think?"

"We have" I agreed "Your father, Mikael"

Rebekah nodded pursing her lips "And we dealt with him too. We can deal with Alaric"

I sighed, nodding. Rebekah had told me the day after the Ball Esther arranged how they killed their father when I was daggered, a few weeks ago on the homecoming dance. I was mad at them for not telling me but I understood. The man had hunted us down since we turned. He deserved what he got.

Though there was a part of me who felt sad and angry about his death. He hadn't been the best father for my cousins but for me, he was a good uncle. He taught me everything he knew about hunting down and killing rogue vampires. I never liked innocent blood spilled. One time I stayed with him about ten years after a fallout with his children. They were too lost in hunger to notice me gone but I still left a letter to Elijah explaining my absence. I was always running, never trusting anyone. Not even Mikael, not even my cousins. The only thing I've ever did was giving letters before running. It made me a coward, yes. But I was alive for it. Which is why I probably hated Katerina. We had the same mindset while it was about survival.

For years, I trained under Mikael's tutelage, becoming part of what I am right now. I became a ruthless vampire hunter who killed vampires who killed innocent people or drank their blood, I never liked innocent blood spilled, so every town that had me it was protected against vampires and through the years, I made a name for myself.

"We're gonna do this together, Bekah" I told her "I'm not leaving your side. Now let's find Nik, shall we?"

Rebekah smiled, "We shall"

We were gonna try to figure this out as family. Only we didn't expect what came next for us
