the cold air stung at menda's limbs, forming goosebumps on her pale arms. the weather seemed to have changed a little these past few days; getting foggier in the morning, heavy clouds lingering in the distance. menda wondered if the seasons were changing.

"you should've brought a coat," mei had whispered, her breath evident from the thick smoke.

menda hummed in response, becoming dubious at the position she was in now.

hours earlier, when the sun was barely awakening from its cycle, mei and menda seemed to have tried everything to track down menda's laptop all morning. they had bickered about risks, agreed on certain plans, and mostly talked about everything that they wanted to do carefully.

once mei tracked down the laptop on an app, it was shown as shut off, and marked on the map at an address not to far away from menda.

menda's heart wanted to do backflips at the discovery that her laptop was half an hour away from her.

hoseok has been sending countless messages to her, asking her if she'd be at the dojo or if she got home okay.

she ignored it, however, did not let him know she had read it. after all, she did know how it felt to be so desperate for a response as she thought back to the messages she sent to her own laptop, that have been read.

it didn't bother her as much anymore though, as she was in action of getting it back.

mei nudged her side bringing her back to reality. "so? you ready?"

"yeah." menda could hear the hesitance in her own voice.

for about twenty minutes now, they have been in mei's small convertible, staring at the house that was supposedly the address.

it was a large house, menda had thought, compared to her little apartment. it was the color of milk and surprisingly had a cut lawn. the rest of the houses around it had lawns of death - yellow straw grass and a bunch of weeds.

menda saw no cars, no lights on, but the thought tugged at the back of her mind of what kind of person would own such a large place. it reminded her of a small dollhouse she owned when she was a child; top quality with a setting of a fun place.

she decided to savagely drag herself out of the car and run through to the side of the house. menda had not worried about mei, her being the getaway driver.

menda smiled at the thought of mei trying to act tough when she insisted she stay in the car just in case she had to run for it.

shaking her head as if to clear it, menda put her full attention at her surroundings and sounds. she waited a few moments to see if she could hear anything, but nothing alarmed her besides the constant echo of cars driving by.

her eyes darted from side to side, discovering a window not that high above her head. its pane was centimeters open, a detail not even a robber couldn't have caught. menda let out a breath she didn't realize she'd been holding.

her fingers were trembling tremendously, the tips slowly becoming bluish.

she hitched in another breath, slowly tip-toeing a bit higher to peak inside. her eyes had widened, noticing a faint light that was on in the small room.

'so maybe someone is home' she had thought, her stomach twisting.

"yoongi im going to borrow a pair of socks!"

the sound of a human voice made her heart skip a beat. she ducked in a flash that she almost fell on her bum.

she closed her eyes, trying to stay quiet. she crept her face closer to the cold wall.
