"Queenie is down," I look up from my phone as Maya walks in. "Finally."

I don't say anything, but rather hit the sleep button on my phone and watch as the screen goes black.

She stares at me and I already know what's up, "We have to try."

"I know," she sighs sadly and rubs her upper arms. "I just wish the outcome would be different."

"You never know," I shrug and lean on the back of the sofa to get up. She reaches her arm out to help me, but I shake my head. "I'm good."

"No, you're huge." She remarks with the fainted hint of a smile. I flip her off, before we head to the back of the apartment.

"Kay," I knock on the open door, looking in at her. Maya and I both frown; she hasn't moved.

"She sleep?"

Maya nods and we both walk in.

"You need to do the same," I comment softly. She doesn't move from her horizontal position on the bed, just continues to stare off at the wall, that same withdrawn expression on her face.

"I don't want to sleep." She answers almost robotically.

"What you want and what you need are two different things."

"What I need!" She suddenly snaps, turning around to look at us, her jaw shifting from her conflicted emotions. "What I need is for you two to leave me the hell alone."

"Kay we're worried about you," I grimace at the sight of her. We thought Ronnie's words would eventually leave her mind, but they haven't. It's like with each day, they sink further and further in. When she holds Queenie, her smile doesn't last for longer than five minutes. Even worse, holding Queenie for too long causes her to break out in tears. It's tragic and heartbreaking all at once.

"How's Colin?" She quickly changes the subject, and although I want to call her out on it, I opt not to.

Despite our little moment at the beach, I hate to admit to Colin and I are still on shaky ground. Just this morning, he and I got into it over some stupid shit. He got up at an early hour and I simply asked him why and where was he going. He had the nerve to tell me some "don't worry about what I'm doing" and that he was "chillin with Ben."

I almost fucking lost it.

"He's got his friend staying with us, so good, I guess." I shrug, not really wanting to talk about him anymore than what is necessary. I've let that whole Aldon/Mariah situation go (for now), but Ben is still here and I had thought considering today is Colin's last day before he flies back to Santa Clara, we would spend time together. Right? No, he's spent all his time with that troll these past few days, gracing me with a few minutes whenever he can spare it. Honestly? It pisses me off more that he'd rather spend time with Ben, than me, his wife, who is also carrying his first child.

Kaydence rolls her eyes and looks off into the distance, "They found our favorite guardian yet?"

The casualty and darkness in her voice is slightly unsettling. Apparently, Jamie went missing a few days ago with no one hearing from or seeing him since. That's about all I know. I think I can speak for all of us when I say we could give less than two shits if he's found dead, alive, or if they even find him at all.

Whatever happened, this sick fuck deserved it.

"When's the last time you ate?" Maya suddenly asked, shifting uncomfortably. Anyone with common sense could understand why she, or any of us really, would want to talk about our abusive caregiver.
