~The Oak~

"Hello stranger," she calls.

Her beauty so strong and still,

Even as her colored leaves fall.

From those fiery shades of scarlet,

To warm, crispy browns.

She whispers to you, the stranger,

Her lulling cries seductive.

Gray skies, you hide from the cloaked ranger.

You go to her, rain falling,

You slump at her gnarled feet.

The ranger shouts at you,

Demanding your arrival.

Yet you stay, like a fool.

Her beckoning cries become silent,

And so do yours, moans lost in crumpled leaves.

The Oak, she always knew your fate,

While Destiny told the ranger,

And either way, final is death's date.

The rope clings to the Oak,

And the cloaked ranger carries you away.
