"Well, hello!"

"Ah, it's you."

"'Tis me."

"You sound funny."

"I do?"

"Yes, like... happy."

"I sound happy?"

"Yes."

"And that's funny?"

"Funny, as in weird. Why are you happy?"

"Haha, it's weird to be happy?"

"It's weird for you to be happy."

"Ouch, that's not cool, Daniel."

"What's going on?"

"Nothing much, really. I'm just... happy."

"Why?"

"I need a reason to be happy?"

"Yes."

"Fine, I'll tell you."

"Go on, then."

"I'm building up to it"

"Sophie-"

"I'm coming home today!"

"And that's why you're happy?"

"Well, there's the other thing, but that mainly is why I'm happy."

"What's the other thing that's made you happy?"

"Um... well, I, uh... Are you freee tomorrow?"

"No. Now, tell me what the other thing is."

"I'd rather not tell you over the phone."

"Sophie, just tell me."

"No, I want to tell you in person, face to face."

"Well, I'm not free until Saturday, so you may as well tell me over the phone."

"No, it can wait until-"

"Sophie! Tell me!"

"Um... well, I've got some news."

"Good news or bad news?"

"That depends."

"On?"

"See, here's the thing- I've been offered a new job."

"A new job?"

"Ok, technically it isn't a new job. It's to cover someone who's going off to have a baby."

"Right, and?"

"It's for Vogue."

"Ok."

"In New York."

"..."

"Daniel?"

"New York?"

"Yeah."

"America, New York?"

"How many New York's are there?"

"Just the one, as far as I'm aware. But... it's on the other side of the world."

"It's not that far."

"It's a different continent, Sophie."

"But it's not on Pluto."

"..."

"Are you taking the job offer?"

"I kinda have to."

"No, you don't."

"I was asked by the Queen herself, I can't say no."

"The Queen? As in, Elizabeth II?"

"Haha, no. By Anna Wintour. I was personally head hunted for the position. That's why I went over in January. It was a test run to see how well I'd fit in, and it seems I made a good enough impression that they want me to head over there for a few months."

"Months?"

"Four months, tops."

"Four months?"

"It isn't that long."

"..."

"..."

"You're going, aren't you?"

"I want to."

"But?"

"I keep thinking about everything I'd be leaving behind. Even for four months. I mean, there's Hugo, you, Lucas, my family, work-colleagues... there's a lot to think about but I always come back to the same conclusion."

"Which is?"

"I'd regret it if I didn't go."

"..."

"I mean, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity. It's Vogue. Anna Wintour. You don't say 'no' to that."

"Then it seems like you've already made up your mind."

"Daniel-"

"Take it."

"But-"

"Like you said, opportunities like this don't come your way every day, so, go."

"Yeah, but-"

"Sophie, leave. Go."

"You know I'll be coming back, right?"

"Yes, but you'll be gone for four months."

"Maybe less."

"Maybe more?"

"I'm not sure. It's initially until the end of July, but... maybe longer."

"What are the chances that this could turn into something permanent?"

"I'm not sure. I can't tell you."

"Right..."

"Daniel, c'mon. Don't be like this."

"Like what? What am I being like?"

"Snappy, for one. And unsupportive."

"How do you want me to react, Sophie? You've just announced- over the fucking phone- that you're leaving for four months. Tell me, how was I supposed to react?"

"I wanted to tell you in person, but you wouldn't let me! Don't make me out to be the villain here. Why can't you be happy for me?"

"Because you're leaving!"

"That's a good thing!"

"For who?"

"FOR ME!"

"THEN GO!"

"I WILL!"

"FINE!"
