-phil's pov-
~*~
blood.
the putrid metallic
stench hit my nostrils
just as quickly as the
crimson had been spilled.
dan was livid.
only moments before had
he been on the verge of
giving up; of letting pj
kill him.
but now...
i squeezed my eyes shut in
shock as pj coughed, spitting
out incoherent words and,
with them, blood.
as the sound of dan's fists
against pj's skin ceased,
i slowly looked upon the
scene.
dan stood, breathless and
manic, over pj's weak and
crumpled body.
"d- dan..."
he stared at his fists, blood
covering his knuckles.
"i- i didn't mean it, phil. i-"
and then he broke down
in tears.
great sobs poured from his
being as he collapsed to his
knees.
quickly, i scrambled off the bed
and kneeled by his side.
the blood drained from my
face as i felt for and failed in
finding a pulse on pj.
we stayed silent for while before
dan spoke up.
"we need to do something about
him"
"like what?"
"bury him, i don't know! i'm
panicking!"
"why don't we just leave him?"
"my fingerprints will be all over him!
i'll be caught!"
"not if we leave."
"what?"
"let's just leave! we can travel, and
never come back to this godawful place."
dan paused for a moment,
thinking things over.
"do you really think we could do it?"
he mumbled.
"i think we can do anything, daniel howell."
a smile found its way onto my lips
for what seemed like the first time in
forever.
this is what i wanted, i knew that now.
i wanted dan.
"okay, come on, we need to leave."
pulling dan up with me, we headed for
the door.
"let's get back to mine," dan said. "we
can clean up, pack a bag, get some money,
and leave."
i nodded, taking dan's hand in my own
and giving it a reassuring squeeze.
"so," i grinned. "where shall we go first?"
dan chuckled half-heartedly.
"it's up to you, mr lester!
the world is our oyster."
for a moment we stopped talking.
was this really happening?
were we really doing this?
my mind was racing.
i looked to dan, who seemed
defeated.
he looked weary and lost,
his chocolate eyes were cold.
he was mumbling under his
breath - words i couldn't quite
catch on to.
but, as we made the rest of the
journey in silence, i managed
to hear something:
"the world may be our oyster,
but you are, most definitely,
my pearl."
