After having to look up the pronunciation of this word, I'm convinced that it's made to make you sound French. It's original origins first come from Latin with the prefix ad-, meaning to, and suavis, meaning sweet, but is was directed to Middle English through Old French words assouagier and asouagier. So I guess the pronunciation makes sense.
