sac•ro•sanct

adjective

(especially of a principle, place, or routine) regarded as too important or valuable to be interfered with

My first choice for this week's word was 'inalienable,' but this synonym sounded more like what it means to me. I like the idea that some things are too important to even be interfered with. Things like human rights and democracy, for example. It's a good way to describe a society's core principles.
