This is another more commonly known word, but again, I'm very fond of it. I slightly prefer using it with the second definition in mind, even if it is old-fashioned. I love seeing this word in books, especially when it's in a historical or historically-inspired setting. Even though it's a verb, it feels so descriptive, even for such a short word.
Looking at this word I can just imagine a scorned gladiator or merchant spitting it out, and a tsundere high school girl hissing it at the boy she secretly likes.
