"Stay with me, Cade," I say. Aster looks away. "Aster. Let me go so that I can help him." Tears free fall down my face and they make my vision blurry.
"I can't do that," he says.
"Aster please," I cry.
"Fine." He gives in. "But if you try to do anything funny, I'll kill him myself." Aster unties my wrists, and I scramble over to Cade. He groans and holds his side.
"Everything is going to be okay," I reassure him. Cade grabs my hand.
"Sage," he admits, "I have something to tell you." Cade reaches up and strokes my face.
"Anything," I sob.
"I- I love you," he says, "but you were with Logan the whole time I never got to tell you." Cade smiles. Cade sits up and pulls me into a hug. When he lets go, we are looking each other in the eyes. Cade pulls me in close and kisses me. This time, I let him.
When he pulls away, I wish he hadn't. He sinks back down and his eyes glaze over. I feel his last breath on my face.
