I had to do something quickly. Clark was already getting out of his car. I undid my seatbelt and hopped into the driver's seat. I did not move Alexis's body because I was in such a hurry. I felt so gross and disgusting.
"I'm sorry," I whispered to her still corpse.
I hit the gas pedal as hard as I could and began to drive. Clark's face was something I'd pay to see again. His eyes bulged out of his head, and he stood there for a few moments wondering if I had really done that. I looked at the passenger side for a moment. AJ's hand was on top of his wife's head. His cold eyes stared at her but then they looked at me.
I screamed, "AJ!"
He mumbled something that I couldn't quite make out.
I had no idea where to go. I had never been to Connecticut. I looked around for a map or something useful. I slowed down the car's speed so I could reach for things and drive at the same time. AJ groaned and with a limp hand pointed up. Alexis had set up her GPS for Manhattan. I silently thanked her.
There was a problem though. I had to take AJ to a hospital, but I had no idea where anything was and Clark could catch up.
I looked over at him, "AJ, please forgive me."
He moaned, "No."
I heard a sharp intake of breath. I looked over to see him dead, truly dead. I ran my fingers over his eyes. I couldn't stay sad for too long because Clark's car had appeared in the rear view mirror. He pushed himself into that pedal and surpassed me. He spun around so that I couldn't escape. I slammed on the brakes and nearly hit his car. I was completely frozen. I waited for him to pull me out of the car and control me again. He did as I thought and threw me on the ground.
"You piece of...I CAN NOT BELIEVE YOU..." he was trying to catch his breath and sound threatening at the same time, "Y-YOU JUST...DO NOT KNOW WHEN TO QUIT. YOU DO NOT GET IT Y/N! I HAVE WON! YOU HAVE LOST!"
"Clark," I softly spoke, "please."
He pulled out his gun, "Begging for mercy till the very end, are you?"
"Please," I repeated.
"Who can deny that face?" he pointed the gun at his own head and pulled the trigger.
I was not sad to see him go. I did not want to help him. However, for a second, there was a flicker of pity, but that faded away when the memories of the night come flooding back in.
This was all just one day. One horrible day that seems to never end.
I collected myself and searched his body for his car keys. I found them in his left pocket. I went to turn on the car to move it. In the cupholder was my phone. I took a moment to look at the glittery blue case before pocketing it. I moved the car into the open field. I was amazed that no one had witnessed the scene. It must have been a small town. I then tossed the keys into the car and slammed the door shut. I moved Clark's body into the trunk of the car and put Alexis's and TJ's in the back seat.
I called Barba.
Please pick up.
B- Hello?
Y/n- It is over.
B- Y/n! Where are you?
Y/n- I'm coming home.
With that I hung up the phone. I didn't feel like talking. I had to concentrate on getting to the police station without being reported for having three dead bodies in a car that wasn't even mine. Clark was right. He blowed my mind by blowing his. I could not wrap my head around it. Why would he throw away everything? He organized this for so long and killed the others. Why was I any different from those other women? What made me special?
The car ride passed by quickly; I had reached the police station. I walked into the squad room, but no one noticed.
"I'm here," I said.
No one listened.
"I'M HERE!" I shrieked.
Everyone stopped dead in their tracks. Rafi dropped his coffee and stared at me. I only then realized I had blood and sweat stains all over my dress, rope burns were on my wrists and ankles, and I was still very dehydrated.
"I want some water," my throat sounded scratchy.
No one moved.
"Clark," Amanda spoke.
"Dead in the trunk. I did not kill him," I was amazed by how stiff and calm I had become, "There's also a woman and man who helped me. They are dead. Clark killed them. There names were Alexis and TJ. They were in love. They were married for fifteen years."
