He Came

This one's a bit older. I wrote it for my literature teacher for the Christmas of '14.

He came as a babe on Christmas morn.
He came to bear the crown of thorns.
He came to bear the weight of sin
And to do the devil in.
He didn't come to beat the Romans,
He came to be beaten by men.
He didn't come to save the Jews only,
But also the Gentiles so lowly.
He came to be spit at and hung upon a tree.
He came to give his love and life for worms like you and me.
He came as a child born in a feeding trough.
He got sick like us, more than once he had the cough.
He was turned away his whole life; even before he was born.
The innkeeper sent his mother away to the barn on Christmas morn.
