First time on the seminary roof

The dust was thicker
than the coat on my fan blades
and we wrote in it like snow
with the toes of our shoes --
P E R U
-- with the big swirly P,
and some wrote their names,
or "Grace PCA,
2019."
I took pictures of the flag,
the civil flag,
without the coat of arms.
I didn't know the difference.
And everyone marvelled at the view,
and I wondered how poverty
could look beautiful, from afar.
