It couldnt have been Lupin.
It couldnt have been Lupin sat with Snape.
It couldnt have been Lupin sat with Snape, discussing separating two young lovers, one of whom was Lupins best friend.
But it was.
Should I tell James what I heard? I thought. After all, what did it matter to me if Remus was no longer our friend?
I suddenly knew what I had to do. Keeping secrets from James is impossible. He knows when hes not being told something, and then he will weasel it out of you. And then, your friendship will die, and he will hate you forever. And forever is such a long time, especially to be hated by someone like James.
I had to tell him.
