“Haaaaaarrry” Lola whined “We’ve been walking for miles”

Harry strolled ahead at a steady pace up a long stretch of slanted road, his bag over his shoulder. Lola traipsed behind, dragging her feet and trying to keep up with him.

“My feet hurt”

Harry came to a halt and turned his head to see what she was doing, and saw Lola tipping gravel stones out of her ballet pump. He didn’t say anything as he waited for her to come along. Lola put her shoe back on and crossed her arms over in a sulk, not wanting to walk any further. Harry raised an eyebrow at her assertiveness and coughed into his fist.

“Come on” he murmured in a low voice, becknoning her to join him

“No”

“We can stop for a little while if we find a field or something, but you’re creating a hazard by standing still on a country lane, now budge”

Lola rolled her eyes and marched forwards, trying to show Harry how tired and bored she was. She had no idea where they were and she was pretty sure they’d headed more towards the West than North. Harry seemed to have some sort of idea but Lola couldn’t walk any further with the sore blisters forming on her toes. She wasn’t sure how Harry planned on getting back to the hotel for tonight when they had walked so far this evening

“Your Mum called when you were in the bathroom earlier by the way” Lola said

She heard no reply from Harry as he acted as if he hadn’t heard her, following his brisk stride up the lane, towards the top of a hill.

“She’s worried”

“Yes alright I’ll text her later” he insisted, tired of hearing about Lola’s concerns.

After a few more minutes of walking, they reached the end of the lane and spotted an area of grass behind a field gate. Lola didn’t even ask before opening the latch of the gate and sitting herself down in the field, giving her feet a rest. She breathed a sigh of relief and Harry stood over her, his shadow blocking the sun.

“Have a seat okay, I need to just give my feet a break?” Lola said, leaning back onto her elbows and letting the sunlight melt into her legs.

“Actually” Harry started, holding his hand above his eyes to block out the hazy brightness as he looked around “This looks like a good place to stop”

”Yes okay now sit” Lola rolled her eyes, urging him to get out the way. Harry sat himself down beside Lola, his jeans slipping low over his ass and revealing the majority of his boxers. He rested his forearms on his knees and playing with a blade of grass.

“So maybe now would be a good time to tell you that we can’t stay another night in a hotel”

Lola took a second to register what he said and shook her head “Sorry, what?”

“I said we can’t stay another night in another hotel” Harry shrugged

“What do you mean we can’t? What the hell do you expect to do?”

“We need to be wise with the money we have with us, and not blow it on hotels that cost £60 a night. We don’t know exactly how long it will take to get to where we’re headed”

“I don’t care! We’ve got enough!”

“Not if you intend on eating at some point in the next couple days sweetheart” Harry replied patronisingly

“Don’t sweetheart me, you know we’ve got enough for one more night, you’re just being an ass. Again”

“Whinging won’t solve it, I told you, We.Dont.Have.Enough” Harry said, pronouncing each word clearly so she understood “Alright?”
