Chapter 9
When I had asked Kimberley to look after Logan as I had been called out to work even though I’d been given time off, I thought it would be from a burning building with many of people needing rescue…. This is not what I turned up to this evening, instead I’m now standing here helping a man who’s car is stuck in the thick snow,
“Arhhh!” I grunt and loud out a heavy breath as I try and push start the car out of the snow, I rest my hands on the car and pant
“Eee, I’m sorry I shouldn’t have called if I knew it would be his hard and if a young lady like yourself would be coming to my rescue” The elderly man says from his seat in the truck
“Na its ok, it’s one of the things we do” I smile as I try but fail to move the car
“Colin!” I shout his name and he jogs up not before slipping in the snow but quickly grabs the car and saves himself.
“I’ll see if I can budge it” he smiles and I move towards the truck to try and contain some of me body warmth.
Kimberley’s POV
I sit in Cheryl’s front room watching the TV, I still cant believe she welcomed me into her home I mean she doesn’t know me I could be anyone even if I am a famous singer, I was actually surprised when she asked me If I could look after her son while she got called into work unexpectedly of course I said I would and for her not to worry and she said
“I’m not worry pet, I’ll know you’ll look after him, thank you again!” she said as she rushed out of the door and out into the snow.
I curl my feet under me as I sit on the sofa I turn my head sensing someone there and I see Logan standing there holding onto a teddy, a very old looking teddy it looks older than him
“Errmm, Miss Walsh?” he says
“Are you okay Logan?” I ask him and he stands next to me, he hands me the teddy and then walks over to the other side of the room and pulls open a drawer taking something out and sitting next to me taking back the teddy he curls up next to me and shows me the picture
“That’s me daddy, he was like me mam, he saved people” he says
“You look like your daddy” I say looking at the picture of a man in a fire uniform who has his arm wrapped around a young Cheryl
“Mammy says that, says that I have his smile” he grins sleepily
“Do you ever see your daddy?” I ask him and he suddenly looks sad
“Aye we go visit him and put flowers out for him, mam says he can see them from heaven” he says
My heart falls as I listen to his words I look at him and see his big brown eyes fill with tears so I open my arms and he falls into them
“I miss me dad, and me nana and uncle Andrew. Their all together in heaven mam says she said they get along really well” he says and I have to hold my sob back but my tears still fall
“Miss Walsh-“
“Call me Kimberley sweetheart” I say to him and he smiles
“Ermm, Kimba-Lee” I says and I giggle
“Almost babes” I say to him and he nods his head
“Can you take me upstairs?” he says
“Yeah babes course I will” I say and stand up I pick him up ignoring the pain in my ankle and I carry him to his bedroom, you can’t miss it, it’s all blue with loads of fire truck toys and airplanes,
