Blinds

The light streams through the blinds and hits like soft brush strokes on my skin

I close my eyes.

Suddenly I'm there again. In the place when I knew.

The light was soft then too. Our voices filled the space.

The words spoken were not the words we wanted to say.

Your eyes told me to run as far away as possible.

Mine begged to stay.

And I knew, although I couldn't admit it to myself.

Stop. You're doing it again.

The light is fading now, the sun inches below the trees.

I tell myself to forget.

Forget everything.

Words I recently read hold more truth than I ever imagined.

"Get out of my memory. Then I'll be free."
