Chapter 21: They Can Do What They Want; I'm Not Scared (EDITED)

Hayden

Leaning against the wood of the ship I listened hard to the waves hitting the ship and the rock of the ship turning. I don't know Willow that well at all but she trusted me the day she first met me by telling me everything about herself and now was the time I felt like I had let her down; having us both locked up in a cell sailing far away from her home. I could hear my heart beating out of my chest since the room was silent. The only sounds either came from outside, came from me, or came from the guards walking back and forth along the cells. Each time they walked past me and Willow, they made sure that their gaze landed on us making sure we weren't up to anything suspicious and then would leave again. I buried my head within my hands and closed my eyes and thought real hard. My mind was completely blank; it was like a ball of white cotton tearing to break with ideas but instead just thickened. Willow wasn't talking. In fact she wasn't making any sound whatsoever which was unexpected. I thought that she's possibly sat there thinking of a way out or at least examining how to get out the cell door. "Willow...?" I said, but I received no reply. "Willow....?" I tried again and held on my wait for an answer but I didn't get one again. However, I heard a small moan. I turned around ever so slightly minding not to damage my bruised bones to face her in the cell. I pushed myself over to the bars that connected mine and her cell together to find her as she buried herself in the corner of the shadows.

From what I could gather she was curled up within herself, clutching hold of her chest; I scanned her noticing there was scarlet dripping from her head soaking into her vibrant hair. I clutched the bars and felt my heart race with worry "Willow, look at me?" I watched as she slowly tried shaking her head. "I'm fine if that's what you're going to ask me." I groaned, how could she say that when she clearly wasn't! One thing I already knew about her was that she is so stubborn. "Willow you're not fine, why is your head bleeding? Why are you in pain?" once again she gave me the shake of the head, pushing her hair away from her face; that must annoying having all that always getting in the way, why didn't she ever put it in a braid or something? "He threw me against the wall, I'll be fine, I just need..." I suddenly watched as she started coughing up blood and it soaked through into her hand. It was scarlet and vibrant even against the darkness. I did notice that she had light indigo under her eyes probably from the lack of sleep as well; this girl wasn't in good shape. "A doctor?" I heard her stifle a small laugh, "I just need my one of my bones back into place or I'm gonna..." she coughed up more blood than the last. "You don't need to finish I know the answer, could you try and move towards me?" Her head nodded and she would tell she was weak because as she pushed herself over to me she collapsed against the bars, I caught her best I could by pushing my arms through the bars and I laid her gently up against them.

"Are you sure you know how to do this?" she questioned. I laughed "Course, done it millions of times," she laughed at my remark and held onto the bars for support. I knew she was a little afraid because of the tense position she was holding herself in "Ready?" I asked. She rolled her head to the side and mumbled "Just do it." I pressed my hand against the bone and pushed it fast back into place. She squinted her eyes as I did it and held tighter onto the bars. "Thanks," she smiled at me and I smiled back. I helped her lean up against the back of the of the cell so she could rest her side up against the bars as I did the same on the other side so we were easily staring at each other. Her hair draped across her face hiding away the shadows underneath her eyes I pushed it away ever so slightly to see that she had closed her eyes but I knew she wasn't asleep as I watched as she opened them every now again. All of a sudden her gaze locked onto the cell door and she stared at it for quite some time. "Um Willow, what are you looking at?" within her hand I watched something I'd never seen before. This red sort of magic was swirling around within her left hand, her gaze still fixated upon the lock on the cell door "There's something different about these bars." I looked at her confused, "What do you mean different?" she shrugged at me, not able to give a straight answer.

"Guess there's only one way to find out." She mumbled to herself. Immediately after she threw what was in her hand towards the door and the magic enveloped around it. Eyes widened in admiration and beauty even though the magic rebounded off the door it was still beautiful. We both watched as the magic travelled up the bars and seeped away. "Damn it." She groaned. I felt the same pang of disappointment. "Didn't figure I would make it that easy for you did you Willow?" we both turned in unison to see Jayden walk through the door. "Obviously." She growled back. "How did you figure that the bars were enchanted anyway?" she laughed weakly at him standing outside her cell tracing his hands up and down the bars, smirking proud with his work. "I can see what I can't get through; it's part of who I am," His hand levelled itself down to the lock pressing a small key inside her cell. My own hand travelled through the bars reaching for Willow's as her hand took hold of mine without hesitation; we held on to each other tight as he made his way towards her. He knelt down to Willow's eye level staring deep within the emerald forest. His hand traced down her cheek; I saw that Willow shivered at the touch but never let it show just held onto my hand tighter as I paid the same price feeling her tension.

The hand searched its way down her side grasping hold of her wrist with no remorse. He went to pull her up of the ground but she held her own still holding onto me the best that she could. "Let go of him Willow," she replied with nothing just stared at him deeply and with the sense of threat. I only held onto her tighter as he tugged her, the best he could to move her from her spot. Her hand was slipping, no matter how hard we both tried to hold on. Once he saw his opportunity he tore away our hands away from each other tugging her against him, knife placed to her throat "Don't hurt her!" I held onto the bars looking at her and immensely. His smirked sent shivers through every nerve in body "Found a new protector have you Willow," he leant in towards her ear "What happened to Kai?" her face turned into daggers at the mention her friend or whatever they were "You know nothing about me and Kai, we protect each other." Jayden seemed to process this information for a few seconds before answering "Hmm true, but make sure you don't have a competition," I raised my eyebrows in confusion at his remark and Willow glared at him obviously knowing what he meant before she was thrust out of the cell hitting the ground. Jayden grabbed her by the back of her top and dragged her out the entrance he emerged from "Where are you taking her?!" I half shouted and demanded. Still pushing her forward he replied "Don't fear; nothing's going to happen to her, trust me." And with that they all disappeared from sight leaving me....

Cold, alone in the echoing sounds of loneliness and my own thoughts.
