Chapter 50: The Ruby (EDITED)
Hayden
The words keep running through my head. How could Willow be sure about everything she has found out but it was the main reason she left but she wanted her parents to believe she left because of them not to cause suspicion. We all knew that she wasn't coming back and nothing that we would say to her would change her mind – not this time. But even though she left I and Kai knew that she would never leave without leaving something behind for us to carry on with. So I did a little investigating of my own. I headed up to her room and started digging. I wasn't expecting to find anything when I got there but there was always a chance. When I got there she didn't give me a great start as she left all her stuff piled everywhere from every inch of the room. Where to start? I had no idea. But I started anyway. I looked from every broken floor board to every piece of parchment but still found nothing. I wasn't exactly sure what I was looking for; at that moment in time it was like someone took the words right out of my head because I heard someone say "Do you even know what you're searching for?" I turned around and noticed Kai standing at the door. "Being honest, I don't have a clue what I'm searching for," I sighed.
He came into the room and started to help me search "You know, one thing you can't change about this girl is her secrecy; she's always so private," Kai mentioned to me. That's when something suddenly hit me "Hey, um, Kai, did Willow ever tell you what she was after?" I asked wondering; he stopped what he was doing and looked at me "You know, now that you mention it she never actually did, but she has bound to have noted it down somewhere," I nodded at his remark so we began looking for anything with her handwriting on. I went back to her desk, sat there nd rummaged through every little piece until it all lay on the floor in defeat. I slammed my hands down in annoyance along with my head "Come on Willow help me out here," I mumbled to myself. Within a flash, landing in front of me a small little book. I sat back up taking hold of the book in turn. "What you got there?" Kai came and stood by my side; I looked up at him holding the book "Secret diary maybe," we both shrugged as I opened it up.
The first page there lay nothing. I turned it over for I and Kai to see a delicate drawing of what looked like a gemstone. The carvings on its side looked immaculate and the gem was easy to identify – a ruby. "The binding of the curse..." I read aloud. I looked at Kai who just shrugged his shoulders. My eyes wandered back down to the book as I turned the next page. Notes were scattered from corner to corner, it looked pretty rough but she was still able to keep the neat calligraphy with each delicate swirl and flicks at the end of her words. Was there something this girl wasn't good at? The line which stood out in my eyes was the line reading 'Every spell has a loop hole – nothing lasts forever' it seemed that Kai's eyes landed on the same statement as mine did. I carried on reading, certain words screaming out at me power inside, destroy, release, hidden I shook my head thinking to myself 'Willow what have you gotten yourself into?' the last word which screamed at me read anchor. I didn't need notes to figure out the rest because I knew what she was thinking and I thought the same thing. After everything she had been through from the age of six, it all made sense.
"Hayden, this isn't useful, the stone could be hidden anywhere?" I jumped at the sound of his voice completely forgetting that Kai was still stood behind me. "That's not entirely true," before I could answer Nathan and Corinne waltzed in through the door coming over to us. "It's a gemstone correct?" Nathan questioned as we nodded in unison "So think logically about it, where would you hide something expendable?" we shared looks before shrugging "You hide it with every other gem, let it be a chest, in a cave wall, or even sold in a market place," Corinne listed all the possible places it could be hiding. "But that could take forever," Kai mumbled frustrated "Not really, you've figured out the hardest part the next bit is the logic, it wouldn't be in a market because of its power so people wouldn't keep it nor sell it, it wouldn't be in a chest because there are too many and it would be in the hands of the wrong people and they would like the stone to be kept in one place, so the only place it can be is entrapped in a cave wall somewhere," Nathan ended his list.
"Well that makes sense. So we're meant to search every cave in the archipelago?" Kai wondered at Nathan and Corinne nodded. "No we don't," I spoke from nowhere. They looked down at me "I know where it is," they looked at me confused each asking how. But I couldn't answer them; I couldn't because I was going on a hunch at the words Willow spoke to me. If she was sure then my suspicions could be correct about where it is and there was only one way to find out and that was to go there and find it.

"The Ember Cave? What are we doing here?" Taylor spoke as we arrived "Looking for the stone Taylor, do you need to see it again?" We all looked at her as Kai questioned – she shook her head in response. I laughed slightly at her and started searching with everyone else. We couldn't find it anywhere, we searched every crack, every dent, every red stone, it wasn't anywhere, "Hayden I think your observation was wrong, it isn't here," I shook my head; it was here I know it is. I looked around the cave and noticed Nathan was walking somewhere, "Nathan, what are you doing?" Everyone's heads turned round in unison to see what he was doing. "Its here," he placed his hand over the rock where no gem was placed, "Nathan...there isn't anything there," Taylor told him; he shook his head "No seriously, it's here feel it," I looked at the others, then walked over and placed my hand over the place where his hand just was. As I placed my hand over the spot, I felt this warm sensation pass through my hand and I don't believe that rock is meant to feel warm; as I pressed harder down into the rock, I felt this small vibration touch my hand. I pulled my hand and released a claw from my nails. I circled my claw through the rock deeply pulling it out of the wall. There sat in middle of the rock sat the ruby we'd been searching for.
I pulled it out and let it rest in my hand, it was quite big surprisingly; I thought maybe it would have been a bit smaller than this. We all made out way outside the cave to get a better view of the gem. Everyone's eyes lay upon the gem mesmerized. "I'll take that thank you very much," We all spun around to see Jayden standing there with all his men. We all got our weapons out ready "If you want it, come and get it," I threatened. "Very well," Jayden smirked and with a swipe of his sword the battle commenced. I watched as Jayden headed straight towards Nathan and Cori. Everything was going just swell in my opinion, well not really, not swell at all, we were totally outnumbered and Jayden's men made it completely impossible for us to reach Nathan and Cori. We battled our way as much as we possibly could but it was no use they just kept blocking us with every aim we took. "Kai, we have to get to them," I yelled at him, "I know but how when all they are doing is blocking us," he stated the obvious at me. Once we finally took the men down with each swing we took we ran to make our way over to Nathan and Cori only to see that they were separated.
Cori was led on the ground wounded, I ran straight to her aid and held her in my arms, "Cori, are you okay?" she nodded weakly and looked over at Jayden, he held Nathan in a tight grasp around the neck and wouldn't let him go the more and more he struggled "Bring us the gem and Willow and I promise you no one will get hurt."
