Chapter 23: What Did She Do? (EDITED)
Hayden
Silence. The ship was silent except for my drumming heartbeat and the crashing of waves in midnight sky. My eyes had drifted me off to sleep peacefully enjoying the silence for a long while. My eyes flickered mirroring the reflection that came from the door outside the cells. The light moved its way towards the cells, the rattle of keys clashing metal against metal, a loud thud with something smashing against the ground, laughter evil as anything could ever be, it was harsh and cold just like death itself, the rattle of the keys again and finally the voices fading. I moved my head to look through the bars connecting my cell to the next one, opening my eyes fully at slow pace. I was still leant up in the position before Willow disappeared from her cell; she pushed her way over to me and sat back up against the wall of the cell leaning against the bars so we could speak to each other easily once more. Admits her thick hair I could notice her eyes were more bloodshot than they once were from tiredness the purple surrounding the eyelids underneath, and her shivering from the cold. I carefully took away one of the blankets I had wrapped around me; moving my arms through the bars I gave her the blanket to wrap around herself which she took willingly returning me a warm smile against the cold she felt. So what happened?" I asked. "Nothing much, just an interrogation about what were fighting for?" I looked down at her "That object thingy?" all she did was nod. "Did you tell him where it was or...?" she shook her head instead this time. "Nope so instead I'm staying here longer until I do."
I made an 'oh' shape with my mouth and led back down. "Hayden...are you okay?" she asked me sounding unsure with her answer. My gaze lifted as I looked at what was left of her emerald eyes and they seemed to show concern for me more than herself "Yea...what makes you ask?" she fiddled with the blanket wrapped around her looking away from me answering "I heard what they were saying before I got on deck, about you avenging someone," my eyes popped out of my skull at the thought of he knowing; no one knows what happened unless I trusted them enough to tell them. "I don't know what Jayden did to you Hayden and it's not my business to know but I could see the look in your eye when he mentioned it on the deck, it hurt you, like a dagger was plunged into your heart at the memory. I just want you to know whatever he did to hurt you I would never do, I won't you hurt you like he has," she laid her hand down by the cells between us both. I didn't hesitate to hold onto it, our fingers intertwined tightly and I felt the burning of tears in my eyes but I never let them fall. She looked back up at me and gaze one of her heart-warming smiles which I gave in return before she closed her eyes. I hesitated in my spot about what I should say.
"Her name was Amelia," her eyes opened back up, her gaze landing back on me surprised that I answered her but she listened hard all the same. "She was my younger sister. Back on our home island we used to play with each other a lot and share laughs and I protected her with all my life because it was only us, our parents died during a dragon raid a long time ago. But when I was ten years old, the village was attacked." I slowed down my speech "Jayden?" she questioned and I nodded our eyes never unlocking with each other's. "He was searching for new recruits for his ship and he would stop at nothing to get what he wanted. He saw what I could do I tried his best to recruit me, but I kept refusing but then he did something I could never forget. To make me change my mind he took away the only family I had left, he murdered Amelia in cold blood right in front of my eyes. Thinking that it would change my mind, it didn't it made me more furious towards him than I ever was before and from that moment forward I've searched for him to make him pay for what he did...but the more I think about it, if I kill him then that just makes me more of monster than he is," I finished my voice becoming hoarse from the tears I was trying to hold back.
I watched a small tear fell down Willow's cheek "Hayden I'm so sorry, she didn't deserve that," she pushed her arm through the bars the best she could and wrapped her arm around me "It's not your fault Willow," she shook her head "I know but I couldn't imagine what that must have felt like...I'm sorry I asked you, cause I know that was hard to say," her arm pulled back through the bars and landed back down to the side of the cell. I held back onto her hand so I felt calmer than letting the tears fall down my cheeks. "You don't need to apologise, I wanted to tell you...I needed to," I smiled at her. She smiled back at me and nodded slightly. Her touch was freezing cold making my memory quickly disappear and more focused on her health instead. "I think it's time you got some sleep," I told her moving the blanket that slid down her back up for her to hold once again. She gave me a weak smile and closed her eyes leaning her head against the bars connecting us "Night Willow," I whispered to her "Night Hayden..." I voice trailed off. I smiled and sooner than later we both fell asleep against the crashing of waves and the rocking of the ship.

There was this slight mumble echoing throughout the cells, I ignored it at first figuring it was something outside, until it started to get louder and turned into a moan. I opened my eyes to see Willow flinching at certain moments and breathing heavily as if she was out of breath. She started shaking her head violently and was clutching her heart as if it was in pain. I reached through the bars and shook her "Willow! Willow wake up!!" she couldn't hear me and started screaming. "Willow shh, shh its okay your gonna be fine," as soon as I said that guards came back through the door along with Jayden behind them. "What did you do to her?" I growled at him. He shook his head and tutted "Not what did I do, what did she do?"
They took her back out the cells and left my dumbfounded. What did he mean? What did she do?
