Rebecca,

I did something I know any human being would do, but I know it will haunt for the rest of my life.

Two days ago. There was a German man. We chased the army from the Mareth line. I ran with my gun forward, and confronted this German man. I fell down on top of him and held the gun to his head, but he began to beg.

He begged for mercy, Becky.

In that moment, I told him to go, and he said something.

Gott senge dich.

He blessed me for letting him go, but when I did, he was shot.

I'll never be able to get the look of him running away, looking back at me. Before he was blasted in the head.

I can't forgive myself for that, Rebecca.
