Last Goodbye

Grayson's pov

It has been two days since Gabi was taken to the hospital.  It was Monday, it was also the day she was getting out of the hospital.  The doctor said that her condition had gotten only a little better.  She could only remember her family.  She still couldn't remember me or anything having to do with me.  I was too ashamed of myself to come back to her.  I failed her.  I couldn't protect her.  I promised I wouldn't leave again...but I can't keep her safe, I'm no good for her.  I drove to the hospital to say my last goodbye to her.  I just wanted to see her face again one last time before she's out of my life forever...

I finally got to the hospital.  Gabi's family had flew over from LA to take her to their home for a bit to help her recover.  I walked inside the waiting room and saw Oliver and Mr. O'Connor sitting down.

"Hello, Mr. O'Connor.  It's not the way I wanted to see you again but it's nice to see you after so long."

"Oh, Grayson, it's alright, I'm just so happy and relieved she's okay, for now, but it's a pleasure to see you again too, how are you holding up?"

"Well, um....I just came back to say my last goodbye to Gabi, I think it's best for me to just leave her alone for awhile."

"I know you probably want to stay away from her.....but you have to know..that...she really did love you, very much.  Just remember that please."

"Thank you Mr. O'Connor, it means a lot."

Mr. O'Connor patted my shoulder and I gave him a weak smile.  I looked over at Oliver.

"And you sir, take care of your sister for me, okay?"

Oliver smiled, "haha, I will, it was nice seeing you again Gray."

I gave him a small hug and headed for room 203.  I looked through the window and Gabi was set to leave.  I walked inside and we both looked at each other.  She sat back down on her bed.  I took a spot next to her on the bed, but left just enough room to leave her to be comfortable.  I looked her in the eyes and she still couldn't recognize me.

"Look...Gabi...I just wanted to say goodbye and that I'm sorry.  I know you may not remember me, but I want you to know..that..I really, very much love you.  You are the most important person in my life.  We may not be together anymore, but I will always love you...no matter what.  I really hope you stay safe, just do it for me.  I also hope you remember this, this moment right here."

She smiled at me and almost looked as if she were about to cry tears of happiness.

"I-I don't know what to say, but if you really were my boyfriend...then I guess I was pretty lucky to have you."

I smiled.  She gave me a weak smile.  We both gave a small laugh.  I held her hand and looked her deep in the eyes.  I moved a bit closer to her and leaned in.  Our faces were inches away.   I could feel her breath on my lips.  I slowly leaned in closer and kissed her for the last time.  It was odd, because it was like any other kiss we had, but this one just felt a little more special, or important, it had so much more worth.

I broke the kiss and she let a single tear fall.  I looked at her beautiful face for the last time, and left the room without a word.

I couldn't take it anymore, I can't see her again, it would break my heart too much.

Just like that she was gone, forever......
