Bethany's POV

Heading back to the mansion before Elizabeth sparked smiles among the staff. I was ushered to my room where I read a book until I heard sound coming from downstairs.

I peeked outside my door to hear, "It is good to see you, Sir Phantomhive!"

I snuck downstairs and eavesdropped.

"Lord and Lady Midford! It is a pleasure to be here. I have come here bearing news about your daughter."

Wait... What?

"Whatever do you mean, dear?" My mother said.

"Young lady! Did Sir Phantomhive get you pregnant?!"

My face paled. My thoughts ran a mile a minute. At that moment, I wished I could see my mother and father, my sister and her fiancé.

"Oh no! No no no, Lord Midford. You mistake me. This is about the engagement."

"What about the engagement? Don't tell me it is off, dear boy."

"I'm afraid so father," Elizabeth spoke up.

"Is she not pretty enough for you? Not rich enough? Tell me why you are rebuking the engagement."

There is silence. My heart is pounding. Suddenly, a servant goes on the staircase. Oh no. Oh no no.

"Miss Bethany! What are you doing crouched there?"

I stand up, my cheeks heated in embarrassment. Suddenly, all eyes are on me. Especially one eye belonging to a young boy with an eyepatch.
