Withered Rose

191 22 17

Somewhere,

Where the snow-powdered evergreen trees of the forest,

Break their pattern.

Somewhere,

Where the bubbling brook that weaves among the broken twilight shadows,

Freezes over,

A lone rose withers under the light,

Of a billion stars spinning on crooked axes.

A rose who's tattered petals,

Blackened on the edges as if they were scorched by the nonexistent sun,

Bloom on despite the scattered patches of frostbite,

Convening on those tattered edges.

Somewhere,

In the midst of that enchanted forest,

Lies a rose that reminds me of you,

With your weathered mind,

So weary from being tossed by raging seas everyday,

And if there were,

By some scientific miracle,

A way for a maelstrom to seize in my ever-aching heart,

Which isn't red like the veinous organs of the living,

But black like those charred petals,

I know,

That by the grace of every God that ever lived,

It would be but one gaze of your glinting eye,

That sets me over the edge.

This poem was inspired by JoshuaBullock's amazing poem 'Rose' in his collection It's 2 AM And I'm Rambling. If you enjoyed this poem, I highly, highly suggest you check out his work, as it is some of the best poetry I have ever read on Wattpad. Definitely a must read if you enjoy beautifully-written free-verse full of passion.

As always, thank you all for reading, my Rosebuds! ;)
