Equality

Somewhere along the way, we humans lost our humanity.

We are all grasping for peace, but stepping on each other

And sacrificing the lives of others just to reach what we call "peace."

We destroy and pull the trigger simply because

The person simply sitting next to us has darker skin,

Loves a man, loves a woman, or is of the "wrong religion."

We've lost our humanity, and sense of wrong from right

Because wars make monsters, and monsters make wars,

And where and when does this fatal cycle end?

When this race is the very reason for their own extinction?

When we have destroyed ourselves and everything we stand for?

I want to live in a world in which equality is a reality.

I want to be able to wake up in the morning

Without worrying that the name of my hometown is displayed 

On the news in red letters next to the words "mass shooting."

I want to live in a world in which I am free to be myself.

I want to live in a world in which I am respected,

For who I am and what I stand for.

I stand for equality,
