Dilemma in Social Media
Besides cyber bullying, chain messages and online trolls. There is another dilemma in social media that most of the millennial fear. And do you know what it is? One word, nine letters, two syllables. Most of us, specially to teens who had the guts to confess their feelings to someone, who is brave enough to type a single "Hi" to someone he or she admired would just probably end up disappointed, because in return, of all the many possible responses, the receiver chose the response of not giving a damn--a response popularly called seen.
The hype about the seen started when the Facebook Team added another feature in the chatbox of Facebook users. It is meant for the sender to know if the receiver already saw and read their message already. After that, the word 'Seenzoned' was made. Although the user who started the trend is anonymous and unknown, he or she surely hurt millions of people the deepest of their hypothalamus by making them realize that this actual response is also a manifestation that the receiver does not even care about the message at all.
Being 'seenzoned' does not necessarily mean that the whole communication lacks response because it is meant to be a feedback. The only problem here is that the response is rude enough to hurt people. It was like saying, "I don't give a damn at all." So in order to have a healthy communication specially on virtual world, don't give the person who messaged you the seen as a reply. Because it is not right. It is unethical to let Facebook do the auto-response. You have fingers that can type. You have eyes that can see the keyboard. You have the brain to think of a short but meaningful reply. You're not a disabled person so stop acting like one.
As a conclusion, seenzoned is already a trend. Everyone knows that if they received a response like that, there are many possibilities why. May it be the receiver doesn't care or he or she doesn't even want to talk to him or her at all, it isn't right. Seenzoned isn't right. If you want to be a good virtual communicator, then don't just read the message--respond to it.
