"No! Lay down." She chastised, pushing him down as he tried to sit up.
He silently complied and watched as she folded up the cloth she'd used to clean his cut.
"I'll bring water." She stroked his hair gently and stood up, walking away from him.
Caelen Armino had never been cared for in his life. Until now.
He silently recalled her in his mind's eye. How her blonde hair was disheveled, her blue eyes were lifeless and how, even though she was the most beautiful girl he'd ever laid his eyes on, she was sad beyond measure.
Adrianna Novak shivered as she pushed the manhole aside with all her might and let the night breeze float through her hair. She ignored the men who catcalled at her as she hurried to the nearest grocery store.
Grabbing the first bottle she could find, she reached into her pocket, spending her last dollar on the water.
Penniless and afraid, she returned to the grounds where Caelen waited patiently for her.
