Maeranna's POV

As I kept running and running, trying to go through the woods as fast as I could, I kept thinking about Legolas and why he was acting that way lately. I wonder if he even knew that I left. Even if he did, he couldn't care less anyway.

I kept running while panting. I smiled as I finally reached the pick up center. I found them talking to a human.

"Thorin!" I called out to him

I am out of breathe. But I ran up to them anyway.

"Maeranna, what made you out of breathe like this?" He asked

"You do not know (panting) how (panting) I ran (panting) through the woods!" I said while panting heavily in between

"Agghh!" I heard a loud scream from my right

I looked to the direction to see Killi holding his thigh.

"What happened to you, Killi?!" I panicked to his side

"He got shot by an orc." Filli said

"We need to keep moving. There is an orc pack on our tail." Thorin told the man

"No one enters Lake Town without the leave of the master. All his wealth came from trade with the Woodland Realm. He would see you in irons before risking the wrath of King Thranduil." He said

"I come from Woodland Realm!" I said quickly

"I mean... I am friends with the prince himself." I said

"We would pay you double to smuggle us to Lake Town." Balin said

"I can talk to the master too." I added

The man nodded.

We all got in the barge.

The man started to lead the boat. Once we couldn't see the pick up center anymore, I approach the man for his name.

"Thank you for doing this risky smuggling for us." I said

"I needed money." He said

"We are having troubles lately, especially when you have three children to feed." He said

"Do you mind if I ask for your name?" I asked

"Bard." He said

"My name is Maeranna." I said

"Of Rivendell?" He asked

"Yes." I replied

"What do you mean by troubles?" I asked

"The master of Lake Town gave in high taxes and we lack of goods." He replied

"What do you mean? King Thranduil as you said as well, traded goods with you." I said

"Goods are all taken by the master." He replied

"How selfish!"

"He is the master, what would you expect us to do?" He said

"Nothing. I would be happy to send in goods as well only for the citizens. The master may have the goods from King Thranduil." I said

"I'm not sure about the master's reaction about it." He said

"I will send my father then. He certainly would not dare to defy my father." I told him

"That can be arranged." He said

Bard then told the dwarves to hand in the money. The dwarves protested at first, but they soon did it. And for some reason, Bard told the dwarves to get into the barrels. And not for long, Bard filled the barrels with filthy, smelly fish. I can't help but laugh silently.

"Quiet! We are approaching the toll gates." Bard said while kicking a barrel

The quietness filled the air as we approached the toll gates slowly.

"Halt! Goods inspection! Papers please!" A man came out from a shed with a lantern

"Oh! Its you, Bard!" He said

"Morning Percy." Bard greeted

"Anything to declare?" Percy asked

"Nothing but that I'm cold and tired, and ready for home." Bard said while handing Percy a piece of paper

"You and me, Bard." He agreed while taking the paper from Bard and Percy went over to a nearby desk, and stamped the paper

"There we are. All in order." Percy said while handing the paper back to Bard but before Bard could take it, a short man with dark hair approached Percy and took the paper, "Not so fast." He said

"Consignment of empty barrels from the Woodland Realm. Only, they're not empty, are they Bard?" He said while taking a step forward to us

"If I recall correctly, your license is a bargeman, not a fisherman." He said

"That's none of your business." Bard replied

"Wrong. Its the master's business which makes it my business." He said

"Oh come on, Alfrid, have a heart, people need to eat." Bard said, getting impatient

"These fish, are illegal. Empty the barrels into the side. In the canal." He ordered his men.

I couldn't possibly take any of this.

"The barrels may be from the Woodland Realm but the fish came from Rivendell." I said while stepping forward

"Who are you to open your mouth in front of me?" He asked with disgust

"The fish came from Rivendell, by orders of my father, Lord Elrond. Would it be a big problem when the Lord of Rivendell and the King of the Woodland Realm came to face you? I'm sure it will!" I said

"People in this town is struggling, times are hard. Food is scarce." I said

"That's not my problem." He said

"And when the rulers of both, Rivendell and Woodland Realm hears about the master, dumping fish in the lake, they won't be so pleased neither will the people. And when the fighting starts, will it be your problem then?" I asked

He glared me a look at first before stopping the men before they even throw the fish.

He throw a look at Bard for a second and said, "You might have their favor now Bard but it won't last."

"Raise the gates!" Percy said

"The master has his eyes on you. We know where you live." Alfrid said

"Its a small town, Alfrid. Everyone knows where everyone lives." Bard replied
