How To Push Characters Together Without Cheesy Coincidences

'I was walking down an obscure street when I suddenly bumped into someone tall. Looking up, I saw a familiar face drenched in coffee. My ex lover. My first love...'

Sometimes when characters meet by coincidence it can work really well, but the whole 'bumping into someone on the street' thing has become extremely cliche.

So if you want your two characters to meet without a cheesy coincidence, you've just got to make one of them be the instigator. Have a character call the other one, have someone approach someone in a club. Don't just 'bump' them into each other.

Forcing characters together can also work well, especially in some of the darker stories of Wattpad. I wrote a story about a slightly twisted kidnapping in which multiple characters met because they were simply forced together.

I mean, to be honest, as long as you plan how your characters meet and write it in a way that doesn't sound cliche you should be fine.
