Vera placed her foot against Sage's, her brow furrowing as she tried to see how much bigger his foot was than hers. Six straight days of just talking to Vera just let Sage know that she was full of surprises. Yesterday, she wanted him to accept the 'love' he had for her and now, what happened yesterday all seemed fake as she now played around with his feet. 

He wasn't lying when he said that she was beautiful. For the first time in his life, Vera was the first teen girl he ever met with gray hair. It went nicely with her round face, dark brown eyes and soft-looking, baby pink lips. Sage's eyes widened. Why was he even looking at her lips in the first place?

❝... Is it true that boys like long hair better?❞ Vera asked him out of absolutely nowhere, her eyes meeting his as soon as she looked up.

❝Um...well...yes and no? A lot of guys like longer hair because they enjoy running their fingers through it and stuff but...isn't that a lot of work for the girl? Keeping it so perfect all the time? If they wanted it shorter, I wouldn't complain about it.❞

Vera's eyes shined. ❝... So you like long hair?❞

❝I didn't say that.❞

❝You like short hair then?❞

❝I like whatever the girl likes. Gosh. It's your hair.❞

❝You're so confusing.❞

❝Excuse me?! You're confusing.❞

❝How?❞

❝How?! I don't get your motives. Why are you even helping me?
Why are you random?❞

❝I want to be your friend.❞

❝Why?❞

❝Because.❞

❝Because of what, Vera?!❞

❝Because I want you to know that life gets better, Sage! Seeing you come up here just like I did nearly ripped me apart and I didn't even know you! I was in your place. I was living in the same shitty world. And I felt like I wasn't strong enough to live in it anymore. You don't have anyone to talk to? You don't have any friends? Anyone to trust? Well, Hi. You have me. My motives are to keep you alive. To fix you. Because second chances do exist Sage; and this time, you're not going to think you have a wasted life.❞
