Superheroes You Didn't Know Were Created By Nigeria

I admit Spiderman and Batman etc are not our own but we have really talented animators who bring us the best animation with really funny names. Nigerian comics are seeing a surge in popularity as Nigerian comic writers ride the wave of international attention on comics and superheroes. Have you ever imagined if Superman landed in Lagos, rather than Metropolis; or the Nigerian government had its own super-soldier program?

1. Pestle & Motar (Mumu Juju)

This wayward dynamic duo are the heroes of Mumu Juju, a hilarious and action filled comic, with characters breaking the fourth wall and amusing dialogue published by Vortex Comics. Motar is a talkative trickster who's loud mouth always seems to land him in trouble. On the other hand, Pestle is the brains of the operation who's ingenuity tends to undo the damage caused by Motar. While Motar is all brawn, Pestle combines both strength and wit to overcome his enemies. The pair are able to summon the power of juju in order to augment their strength and physical capabilities although sometimes the juju backfires on them.

2. June Xii

  Nobody knows who exactly this masked hero is or the true nature of his abilities. However, the people of Nigeria have come to see June XII as a symbol for justice. June Xii is a patriot dedicated to weeding out all of the crime and corruption in Nigeria. Although his abilities are poorly understood he's been known to manipulate energy, teleport and fly.  

3. The Windriders

 ččąčThe world as we know it has been reduced to oblivion as a result of humanity's depraved savagery. In the midst of chaos an ancient cult known as the Black Cauldron seizes power and launches a campaign to take control of Africa. However, there is one thing that stands between the Black Cauldron and global conquest, The Windriders, a band of rebel soldiers that oppose the Black Cauldron at every given opportunity. Each member of the Windriders is a formidable warrior in his or her own right but combined they are a near unstoppable force.  

4. Avonome

Hilda Avonomemi Moses was just your average girl living in the remote village of Etunor, Edo state. One day She mysteriously disappears off the face of the earth with no discernable trace. Several decades later Avonome reappears in a cemetery, not having aged a single day. She has no memories of her previous life or where she's been all this time, all she remembers is the name Avonome. She also finds that she has the ability to call on mysterious powers that enhance her strength, talk to spirits and her manipulate energy.

5. Exo (Wale Williams)

Following the disappearance of his father Wale Williams returns home to Lagoon City, Nigeria having lived in the US for the past five years. Frustrated by the lack of progress made by the police, Wale decides to take matters into his own hands. He discovers an experimental Nanosuit called E.X.O created by his father. The suit automatically reacts to Wale's DNA and merges with him. Suddenly Wale finds himself able to fly, manipulate forcefields and gains access to highly advanced tech and weaponry. These newfound powers give birth to Wale's alter ego "EXO." At the same time a paramilitary group know as The Creed attempts to take control of Lagoon City led by the villainous Oniku. An inevitable clash ensues between Wale and Oniku with the fate of Lagoon City at stake.  

6. Indomitables

Indomitables was created for Indomie and yet its another marketing strategy to get kids and adults interested in Indomie. Remember those days we use to gather the stickers and fridge magnets in each sachet. It really worked well. High 5 to Swifty (Siju), Vision (Vincent Dike), Stretchy (Sai'd), Bigboy, (Beluchi, nickname: Belu) and Tweeny (Tutu), they are absolutely fab. #Nigerianartistesrock
