Adam's hands trembled as carded his fingers through his perfectly beautiful hair. He'd asked me here today for a reason, I knew that, I just didn't know what it was. And gods above was he taking forever."What is it, Adam?" I was completely oblivious to the fact that the school prom was tonight, nor did I care. I'd never gotten asked, and I never expected to.
Adam looked me straight in the eyes and grabbed my hands. "Y/N, you're my best friend, right?" I nodded, my curiosity beginning to grow with each passing moment. "Good, because I wanted to ask, if you'd consider going to prom with me?" He bit his lip nervously.
My eyes widened for a moment, and I reeled my hands back to my sides, causing Adam to frown. "Me?" I laughed to hide the panic. "Why me?"Because you like him. Shut up! Just because I fell for my best friend doesn't mean you have to remind me all the time!
"I want to go with you, Y/N," Adam said, taking a step towards me. My heartbeat was racing, and I was sure he could tell. "Will you go with me?"
I thought about it for a moment before replying. "Of course I'll go with you," I told him, plastering a smile to my face.
Adam's grin broadened, and he pulled me into his arms tightly. "Thank you, Y/N," he whispered into my ear, sending shivers down my spine.
I blushed as he pressed his lips to my cheek lightly, ducking my head to avoid embarrassment. "I guess I'll see you tonight, then?"
"I guess you will," he smirked, giving my hand a squeeze before disappearing into the sea of students. Gods above, what did I get myself into?
"You look beautiful," Adam told me that night as I followed him into the gym, my expression filled with pure panic.
"I don't know how to act at these things, what do I even do?" I fiddled with my fingertips anxiously.
"It's prom, Y/N, not a wedding," Adam chuckled, grabbing my hand in his. I blushed, and I saw Adam smile from the corner of my eye. "All you have to do, is know how to dance."
"What?!" I gasped in horror as Adam pulled me onto the ever-crowded floor, his arm snaking around my waist. I shivered at the contact, and raised my hands to his shoulders.
Adam's eyes darkened, with Gods knows what, as he pulled me against his body. Oh, heaven, help me.
I knew from the moment Adam started dancing I knew I hated it. It was a murderous foreplay of twist, turns, flips and dips, and I despised it. The only thing that made it remotely enjoyable was Adam.
He smiled when dance slowed, raising a hand to cup my cheek. "I have a confession to make," he said, and my heartbeat rose to a mile a minute. "I've had my eyes on you for a long time, Y/N. Cliche, I know, falling for the best friend, but it's true."
I hadn't even heard past the first sentence because before I knew it, my lips were on his. I was kissing him, and he was kissing me back like his life depended on it.
When we broke apart, panting, he leaned his forehead against mine, stroking my cheek with his thumb. "I'm in love with you, Y/N." He whispered. I smiled.
"I'm in love with you, too, Adam."
