POV:  JOHN LAURENS IN THE PLACE TO BE
~
It was the day before Christmas Eve. Most of the soldiers got a small break for Christmas to be with their family.
I, however, visited my family before Christmas just so I could spend it with Y/N L/N.

Y/N was the head librarian in this city, and boy she was gorgeous.
Think of a hot barmaid and put her in a library. That's Y/N.

We met at a market, bumped into each other, apologized, and walked away.

And we kept meeting.

Whether it was on the street, shopping, or in a bar, we always somehow managed to almost knock the other over.
She was the first to comment about it.

'Why is it always you? Don't get me wrong, I honestly don't think you're doing this on purpose, sir. But for gods sake, ether leave me alone, ask me out, befriend me, or kiss me! We can't keep hitting each other forever!'

That was the first time I ever got a good look at her face, and honestly, I was debating on choosing the second or fourth choice. I settled for the one between the two, and we've been close ever since.

I showed up at her workplace as a surprise, before begging her to spend Christmas with me. Y/N agreed.
She still had work, so we passed the time by going into a deep conversation about our families.

-

"... and she said 'Y/N are you courting anyone?' And I said, 'No...' and she's said 'Why?' And I said-"

"Y/N, stop saying 'Said' like that."

"Do you want to duel me, John?"

"Yes, and I'd actually shoot you."

Y/N rolled her eyes and pulled a book off of the stand, hitting my cheek lightly with it.
"You love me too much."

Oh I sure do.

"Continue, Y/N but don't use the word 'said'"

"Alright...

All year, my mom has been writing me letters and asking me about my love life."

"So?"

"-So, I got her really worked up. In my most recent letter she wrote, 'If you can not come this Christmas with a man on your arm or a ring on your finger, do not show up.'"

"Now that's just ridiculous-"

"I know, John! But it's expected of me! Oldest of three and the other two are already married off!"

"Y/N listen-"

"-And it's practically impossible for me to do that, because I only know one male well enough, and that's you! I'm gonna have to fake it now!"

Ooh... she's needs a fake lover? Pssshhh, not throwing away my shot.
"Y/N-!"

"-Also, who the hell wants to court or even marry a librarian? Only the greatest book lover in the world would, really. But-"
