The problems of not being able to hear and not being able to be a part of the conversation around us can of course make us feel isolated and alone.
It doesn't help when the world is full of criticism and bullies.
I have been bullied by the deaf I guess because I was an easy target and couldn't sign as well as them.
But what was surprising without realising it I picked up a few signs as if I had been signing for years.
Normally I signed SSE- Sign supported English around the time I started secondary school I moved on to BSL.
The difference being is that SSE is actually our English language structure but BSL is completely different.
The sentence structure in BSL is like this for example: Tree, Stuck, Cat.
Where's our English would be. There's a cat stuck in the tree. And that is how we would sign it in SSE.
It just seems such a shame that not many people know about all this and I hope that by writing this book it raises awareness.
