Web-Novels' Commonly Used Japanese Suffixes

For those who doesn't know some commonly used terms on Japanese light novels, you'll find their meanings here. But if you're already used to reading anime fanfictions or light novels, then you can ignore this.

SUFFIXES(And some joined suffixes): [FORMAT: name-suffix]

Sama: Added to the names of someone who is really respected, nearest word in English is 'master'.

Chan: Added to someone's name when they're really close to you, or they are your older/younger sibling.

San: Added to someone's name whom you're not really close with, but still want to call them with respect.

Sensei: Someone who is superior to you/ have a higher ranking to you. Depends on the situation. Closest English word is 'teacher'.

Senpai: I'm 85% sure you've already read this word somewhere. It's added to someone who is on an higher level in school than you or simply older than you.

Niisama: Older brother and high-respect combined.

Neesama: Older sister and high-respect combined.

Niichan: Older brother and chan(see above) combined.

Neechan: Older sister and chan(see above) combined.

JAPANESE WORDS(And some with suffixes):

Onii-(san/chan/sama): Older brother.

Onee-(san/chan/sama): Older sister.

Baka: Pretty much the Japanese word for 'stupid' or anything near that word.

Hai: Translated as 'yes'.

RANDOM INFO:

- Japanese writes their name like this: last name first, then first name.

- Calling someone by their first name when you barely even know them is disrespect. They call themselves by last names, and when they're already close with each other, starts calling their friends by their first name. But, sometimes people will give you permission to call them by their first name, even though you barely even know them(at least they do it in anime, in real life, I don't know.).
