We got back to Fairy Tail around dinner time, and Lucy was the first to welcome us back.
"Hey, guys. How did it go?" She asked as we sat down with her, Natsu, and Erza.
"Perfectly. Finished the job in only a few hours." I shrugged.
"Her magic is so... so..." Gray paused. "I can't even think of a word to describe it."
"Useful? Amazing? Something along those lines?" Natsu asked.
"Yeah, something like that." Gray nodded.
"What is it?" Lucy asked.
"Manipulation. I can get anyone to do anything I like." I shrugged.
"That sounds interesting. Can you show us?" Erza asked, and Natsu jumped up and ran halfway across the room.
"Oh, calm down, Natsu. I'm not gonna use you as an example again." I sighed and he came back. "I was actually going to use Happy. Hey, Happy! C'mere." I called and he flew over.
"Yeah?" He asked and I smiled and leaned towards him, holding eye contact, and feeling my eyes burn.
"When I say go, you will be in the Philharmonic." I said and he slowly nodded, looking dazed. "Go." I whispered and Happy stood straight up and passionately began playing an air violin.
"What." Natsu asked.
"It's Beethoven." I smirked, then released Happy, then got up to get myself a drink from Mira.
When I got to the counter though, the lights dimmed, and when they got back up, there was a mic set up on the stage, and Mira was on it.
"Oh great. Random open mic time." Natsu groaned as he stood next to me.
"Huh?" I asked, totally lost.
"We have open mics about once a week. Most people don't participate, it's usually only Gajeel, Mira, and some singing spirit of Lucy's." He explained and I nodded.
"Hey! You sing! You can get up there!" He said and I blushed and panicked as eyes were suddenly on me.
"Uh, no. I'd rather just get a drink..." I said and he started pushing me up on the stage. "Natsu! No, no, no, no, no...! I can't sing in front of people!"
"Oh, bull! First day I met you, you were singing in front of a bar full of people." I was stopped on the stairs to glare at him.
"Yeah, but those were people I didn't know, I didn't care about." I hissed in his face, and he just smiled.
"I believe in you, Baz."
I narrowed my eyes and sighed. "Fine, but only this once, and you owe me."
Once I said this, Natsu hugged me with a cheer as I rolled my eyes. "Yay! Thank you! I'll make you the best stew ever!"
That's when I perked up.
"Really? Like, when we go home?" I asked and he looked at me oddly and laughed, then mused my hair.
"Sure. Whatever you want."
"Yay!" I beamed and got up on the stage, then adjusted the microphone stand to my height.
"Alright, let's get one thing clear. I'm only doing this because Natsu promised me good food when I get home. This is not going to become a normal thing. I mean, unless he keeps paying me in food, of course..." I said, then froze as I saw an evil smirk appear on his face.
"Shit. I shouldn't have said that... anyway, let's get this over with." I sighed, then took a deep breath and started to sing.
"I've heard there was a secret chord
That David played and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do ya?
Well it goes like this
The fourth, the fifth,
the minor fall, the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, HallelujahWell, your faith was strong
but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty in the moonlight overthrew ya
She tied you to the kitchen chair
She broke your throne
and she cut your hair
And from your lips, she drew the Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah..."People were starting to sway, and I started to increase the power in my voice for extra effect (and just to show off, but who cares?).
"Well baby I've been here before
I've seen this room
I've walked this floor
I used to live alone before I knew ya
And I've seen your flag on the marble arch
And love is not a vict'ry march
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah..."For the next verse, I quieted myself, but by the second half, I brought my voice back to power again for effect.
"Well, maybe there's a God above
But all I've ever learned from love
Was how to shoot somebody
who outdrew ya
And it's not a cry that you hear at night
It's not somebody who's seen the light
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, HallelujahHallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah."After the applause died, I went back to my chair, and there was a fresh beer for me waiting. I took a few gulps as people complimented and I waved them off.
"I had no idea you were also a singer!" Lucy beamed.
"I'm not. It's just one of the ways I used to earn money before." I shrugged.
"One of the ways? What were others?" Gray asked, and Natsu and I gave each other looks.
"Uh, story for another day." I said, and downed the beer. "Anyway, I'm starving, and you owe me food." I said and Natsu nodded, and without another word, the two of us were out of there, even without Happy.
"That was too fucking close." I sighed as we walked back home.
"You think you'll ever tell them what you did?" He asked.
"Gods, no." I said and he gave me a look. "Natsu, we've talked about this. People who do what I did are looked down upon. We're not exactly seen as people, more like objects." I explained.
"But they're your friends. They don't judge, and we've all had our fair share of bad times." He shrugged.
"Just because some people can be open about themselves doesn't mean I can, too." I sighed.
