Chapter 10: Christmas & New Year

"This isn't how I expected to be spending our Christmas Enzo, by our daughter's hospital bedside, praying that she'll wake up soon" my mom said.

"I know Rose, but all we can do is pray and have hope" 

I was still in a coma after my little suicide attempt.

"When she wakes up, are we going to take her back to California? Back home?" mom asked.

"Of course we are, she needs to be at home with us" 

I could hear them, I just couldn't wake up. I needed to wake up, I was sick of living inside my own head. 

New Year's Day

"Enzo, she'll be waking up in a different year"

"At least she'll be able to put everything behind her."

"Oh Enzo, what are we going to do?" my mom cried.

"Do you think it's time?" my dad asked.

Time for what? I'M HERE! I'M ALIVE, I DON'T WANT TO DIE, I WANT TO WAKE UP.

"Yes, it's time" my mom sighed.

Everything went black.

Next day

I don't believe it. My parents have killed me. I can no longer hear them, they're no longer near me.

"When you try your best but you don't succeed
When you get what you want but not what you need
When you feel so tired but you can't sleep
Stuck in reverse

When the tears come streaming down your face
When you lose something you can't replace
When you love someone but it goes to waste
Could it be worse?

Wait? I know that voice. No, it can't be.

"Wake up Lex, please wake up. I need you" he whispered.

Denis?

"Come back to me Lex, please" Denis sighed. I felt him grab my hand and kiss it.

WAKE UP! WAKE UP! PLEASE WAKE UP! I NEED TO SEE HIM!

Flashback

"Where are we going?" I asked as he lead me down various streets.

"Somewhere special" Denis said.

After a long walk, we were overlooking the city of Kiev.

"Denis is beautiful" I gasped.

"Just like you" he mumbled. I don't think I was meant to hear it, but I did.

"I love you, Denis" I said as I hugged him.

"I love you too, but not as you think" the last part was mumbled, something else I wasn't meant to hear. 

Suddenly I saw a bright light

"DENIS!" I screamed as my eyes opened and I bolted upright.

"It's okay Lex, I'm here, I'm here, you're safe" he whispered as he pulled me into his arms.

"I'm so sorry" I sobbed.

"For what? This was all my fault"

"You weren't the reason, I tried to kill myself"

"No, but I was the reason you left, I contributed to the reason you're here" 

I didn't say anything, I just let him hold me and tell me that I was safe and everything was going to be okay.
