y/n looked through the Taxi window as the driver took a turn into the big high gate. Out the window, she saw a grey old building that reminded her of some horror movies where a bunch of drunk teenagers would be spending their night in, before got killed by some psycho killer one by one. It gave her goosebumps and bad vibes just by looking at it. Not to mention this will be a place she had to spend most of her time at for a very long time. This is where she'll be working as an intern student. Finally, the car came to a stop in front of the building. There it was: Arkham Asylum, home for criminally insane. Y/n paid the driver, and made her way inside. She found herself in big hall painted in grey. The place was huge, y/n took in the detail. Its bad vibes made her feel the urge to get away from here "Hi, are you y/n?" The voice from behind almost made y/n jump out of her skin. She turned around, and found a woman with short black hair wearing some kind of doctor uniform "Hi, umm yes. I just got here"
"Joan Leland, nice to meet you. I'm a psychologist here. I suppose you're the intern, right. Well, your office is at zone B. Just walk down the corridor and turn left, your resident is at the end of the hall. You will be working under my responsibility. Meet me at my office room B564 at five to discuss about your duties, things I could use your help. You will start working tomorrow. Today will be just me explaining to you about how things are done here, what you need to do, and stuff. You are welcome to take a look around, but do not go into zone Z, got it?" "Y-yes, miss" Y/n gave her a smile. Doctor Leland gave her a slight nod, and walked away. The doctor's voice got serious at the last sentence. What's in zone Z? Y/n wondered but decided to shrugged it off and made her way to her office.

Once she was done placing her things on the desk in her office, she decided to take a tour around the asylum by herself.
She wandered around in zone Y where they kept patients in glass cells in each side of the wall. Each of them were putted in straightjacket. Y/n kept walking, and walking, looking at each cell but at the same time didn't really looking at anything. She was just let her eyes traveled as she absentmindedly walk down the long corridor. Some patients in cells were looking at her with craziness in their eyes, but y/n didn't really care.
As she continued to walk, something brought her out of her little trance, it was a sound... a very disturbing sound of laughing mixed with growling, and something like the sound she'd heard when someone smack something hard against something soft... like human skin. The laugh, however, wasn't like any of the laugh she had ever heard. It sent shivers down her spine even if she only heard the faded sound carried through the hallway from far away. Y/n frowned, and decided to follow the sound. It was getting louder and creepier as she got closer. Y/n followed the sound and came to a stop in front the metal door which had "DANGEROUS. ZONE Z" written on it. She gulped, suddenly remembered what doctor Leland said to her. The sounds were obviously coming from the other side of the door. Y/n looked at the door, and saw the key hanging unlocked at the metal doorknob, as if it was invited her to go inside. Y/n knew she shouldn't, this could get her in real big trouble. She didn't want to cause any problem or for anyone to look at her badly. She was just an intern, and definitely doesn't want to get herself in trouble in the very first day here. "Shut up, you freak!" Y/n heard a man yelled from behind the door, followed by another smacking and laughing sound. This time the voice was clear, it seemed like it happened just few feet away from her. Her curiosity got the best of her, all she had to do was just walking through this door. And so y/n slowly and quietly pushed the door open, just wide enough for her body to get through. Inside was dark, she could barely see anything, but she figured this was good for her. The darkness made it harder for her to be seen, she should be fine if she stayed quiet. So y/n tiptoed to the direction the sound came from. Even though it was dark, y/n could make out that this wasn't like any other zone. It doesn't have plenty of cells on each side of the wall. As y/n kept walking further down, she saw the only cell in the end of the hall, right between the two side of the walls. It was a glass cell, there was one flickered neon bulb inside, which allowed her to see what was going on inside the cell. Y/n saw six men towering over something she couldn't see, thought she knew from the uniform the men were Arkham's guards. She kept her safe distance, and watched as one of the guards kicked something with his heavy boot. Y/n could figure it was a person lying on the ground but couldn't see the face. Thought the man on the floor was laughing as the guards kept kicking him. One shocked him with a taser. The sight made her feel sick. This wasn't right. How could they do that. Y/n watched as how the victim's laugh slowly got quieter as the guards kept abusing him until it eventually died down completely. They stopped once they were pleased. One guard gave him a final kick in his stomach, before they finally left him alone. The guards walked away, allowing y/n to see the man lying on the ground, and that was when it hit her. The green hair gave it away, in front of her was the Joker! Y/n silently gasped. Now it was all make sense now, why doctor Leland told her not to come in here. Zone Z was where they kept the most dangerous criminal himself.
Y/n backed away further into the shadow in order not to be seen when the guards walked out of the cell. She saw one guard pushed the number 1996 as the password to lock the door. "Ha, we got the freak good this time, boys" One of them spoke to their friends "Gotta let him know who the bosses are, right?" And they were all laughing together. The laugh slowly faded away as they walked further away from y/n. These guards, they thought they were brave to did that to the patient, no, they were all cowards. Everyone of them had masks covered their faces so the patients couldn't recognize them, if they'd get out of here. Y/n couldn't believe what she had just witnessed, they were supposed to cure patients, not abuse them. They were no better than the criminals locked here.
Y/n was in a battle with her own mind. Part of her wanted to run away like most people would, if the Joker was right in front of them. Another part of her wanted to see if he was okay. Even though he did bad things, it still doesn't give them any right to abuse him. Was this one of the reasons Joker became like this, they treated him like a monster so he became one.
Y/n had made her decision, she cautiously stepped out of the shadow. The Joker lifted his head up, signaling y/n he acknowledged her existence now. Y/n stepped closer, but still kept the distance. The clown's eyes sparkled once he saw the little girl in front of him "Hello, doll face" He said with a raspy voice, even though he was clearly in pain with all the cuts and bruises, he flashed her a grin. Y/n was too shock to move a step closer "A-are you okay?" She asked "Hmmm what was that? Are you worried about me? What a lovely kitten" J licked this lips "What's your name, doll face, and what a pretty girl like you doing in a place like this hmm? You lost?" The Joker stood up and walked to the pane. It was obvious he had to struggle to walk, the straightjacket he wore was supposed to be white, but red took up the most part of it. "Someone got your tongue, kitten?" Joker snickered since y/n just stood there dumbfounded "Oh, umm, I... my name is y/n. I'm an intern. It's my first day here and I happened to walk by and saw what they did to you... they had no right to do that. Are you okay?" She rambled, showing her concern more than she should. "How about you come a little closer to look?" Joker said, he chuckled when she still didn't move, only stood there, shaking like a leaf. She was so innocent it made Joker wanted to corrupt her. "Come on, I won't bite" The clown snickered, and y/n eventually obeyed. She approached him, until she was standing right in front of him. The only thing separated the two of them was the glass panel. She doesn't even realize but she was staring in the blue of his eyes, mesmerized by them. It was as if she was hypnotized, suddenly forgot about the world around. He was such a beautiful piece of art God ever created. "Would you like to come inside to take a better look?" The Joker purred "You know which number to press" He gave her an evil grin. Y/n let his words sank in, his voice was like a melody to her ears. Without realizing, y/n pushed the button, entered 1996 she saw the guards did earlier, and the glass panel slowly slide opened. The sound of it brought y/n back to reality, and the realization hit her like a truck. What had she done?! Now there was nothing separated her and the monster. He could kill her in a heartbeat. Fears took over her, she was about to back off and run for her life, but then she noticed the Joker didn't even try to do anything to her. He stood still, watching her. This helped her calm her mind, he was in a straightjacket so it would be harder for him, if he'd try to do anything. So y/n gathered all her nerves and approached the monster. They were only inches away from each other now. None of them said a word. Y/n doesn't know what got into her, but she lifted her hand up and pressed it gently on his cheeks where the purple bruise formed, careful not to hurt him. Joker purred as she ran her finger slowly down his cut. Y/n doesn't know why, but it made something inside her heart ached at the sight of him. He was so vulnerable, how could they do that to him. The sound of someone talking from further away snapped the two of them out of their trances. Y/n saw the other guards walking their way, her eyes widened. She could tell by their voices it wasn't the same guards who abused Joker. She'd get kick out of Arkham for sure, if someone caught her open the Joker's cell and didn't even close it back. "Go, kitten, you'd better not let them see you" "But... what about you?" The moment those words left her mouth, she wondered why would she say that? Of course she didn't mean she'd help him escape, did she? "Ooh don't you worry about daddy, he's fine" She saw the guards getting closer, and she knew she had to leave now unless she wanted to be in a big trouble. Y/n rushed out of the cell, entered the password and the glass panel slide close. She backed away, but still didn't left the zone. Y/n creeped in the shadow to see if those guards would do something when they see Joker covered in bruises and cuts, but no, they just walked pass him as if nothing was wrong, as if it was perfectly normal to see their patients getting mysteriously bruises and cuts all over. They saw, but they didn't even question a thing. Had he been abused every time he was in here? It made y/n feel kind of bad for him. She needed to do something about this.
