I saw you today.
Seeing you there, laying lifelessly with wires sticking out of your arms and chest made me break down. JJ walked in, and he walked straight back out in tears. I stayed, I sat with you and I held your hand, which was pale in some parts, purple in others. And cold, you were cold. I repeated your name, hoping you would open your bright blue eyes and smile at me. But you didn't. Nothing happened. I cried silently to myself, each beep of your heart monitor was a stab to the chest.
It was so much harder than I thought.
