Monroe's POV

The Next Day

I arrived at the cafe Adam said to meet him at in the quieter part of town a half hour early. It was a nice day so I sat out on the patio. I started to overthink what I was wearing after I sat down and opened up the portfolio I brought with me to look over.

'Should I have worn a dress? Is it too much? Is it too short? Maybe I could have done without the rings? Is my hair okay? Why am I so nervous? It's just Adam. Pfft, just Adam yeah right! He was my first love for Christ sakes! My first everything! So of course I'm nervous! This is the first conversation we are having in 8 years besides the little arguments the past 2 days.' I couldn't concentrate at all on the work in front of me and I started to get frustrated.

"Monroe?" I heard my name being said. I looked up realizing that someone was standing on the other side of the table. It was Adam smiling at me. He was wearing his signature right white tee, ripped jeans and boots. His hair was spiked up messily and he had a smile on his face.

"H-Hey Adam." I stuttered. Oh great. I started to pick up the photos that I had laid across the table as Adam pulled out his chair and sat down. "Is this spot okay? The paps already spotted you." I said nodding towards the 4 guys taking pictures of us.

"Oh fuck." He mumbled looking over at them. "Are you okay with it or do you want to go somewhere else?" He looked at me concerned. I bit my lip and thought it over.

"How about we order something to go and just enjoy a drink before going? They get their pictures and you don't get publicized as an ass. We leave and eat somewhere else more secluded and you won't get bugged because we're wearing the same outfits and I'll be the same girl so the photos will be useless if someone tries to take more of us." I smiled at him while leaning back in my chair.

"Honestly, I have no clue what you just said but we can do that." He dropped his head and chuckled. He looked up at me with his eyebrow raised. "When did you go from the girl that didn't know what she was doing in the next 5 minutes to the girl 10 steps ahead?" He smirked his signature smirk.

I laughed at his question. "Oh god, I had to grow up Ad. I'm still a kid at heart but now I have a business side to me. I have to have it, people don't take me seriously without it. People expect me to fail because I'm 25 and run my own company that's been successful for 4 years now." I shrugged and blushed because it felt like I was bragging.

"That's understandable. It looks like we're the same people we use to be but with clothes that now fit and a business side." We laughed together and it went silent. "You're an amazing photographer, Monroe. I use to walk by your building and look at all the pictures that were displayed." He looked sincere.

"Thanks Adam." I blushed. "Not all of the pictures are mine but a majority of them are. Ad, call me MJ, I hear you struggle every time you call me Monroe." I smiled at him and he smiled back. The waitress came with our food already packed up and in a bag for us. She put the check on the table and we both reached for it.

"Nope! I'm paying and you can't stop me." I forgot how much him and Jesse are alike. He already had cash in hand and was handing it back to the waitress. I rolled my eyes and smiled while I shook my head. "You brought your car right? I took a taxi."

"Yeah, I brought it. Are you ready to face the madness?" I said looking towards the 20 or so paparazzi that were taking pictures and smiled. I looked at Adam and stood up and grabbed my purse. "Come on." I nodded started walking in the direction of where I parked.

"Why do you do that?" I looked at him as he caught up to me and asked him what. "Smile at them and act like they don't bug you." He shoved his hands in his pockets and looked at me.
