everything we never were

this is an apology
for several reasons
but mainly,
for never forgetting the way
your hand felt on my skin
for still taking the long route back
in the hope that maybe this time
you'll be walking by the track
for dancing to your favourite song
pretending you were next to me
and that it hadn't been too long.

this is a letter,
because words are uncannily
indigestible
when you're near me
so since the wind swallowed my wishes whole,
keep this like a piece of my broken soul
remember the way you said
there were three kinds of people
the loved, the lost and the misled
hold on to the way we met
crowded rooms of passing
we were as drunk as you get
reminisce about your easy jokes
the laughs they garnered veiled
hearts that were broke

but mostly,
this is a promise
for those were made to be broken
and what's more broken than a
girl
in love with a boy of another world
for promises are the quintessence
of misplaced passion and unlearned lessons
thus,
to everything we never were
mountains of light hearted storm
valleys of reckless lack of fear
midnight skies of tainted forevers
corrupting white sheets with
wine-stained truthful nevers
to everything we could've been
sultry skin heats up in the sun
are fights that you know you'd win
we could've been tangled flowers
fiery flames dancing in the night
sleeping stardust sprinkles on towers
could've been you and me
could've been us
you and me- happy

so this is for everything we never were, everything we could've been and everything i wanted from you,
this is an apology,
this is a thank you,
thank you,
thank you.
