Everything had fallen back into a routine.

He would drop his brother off to school each morning, sometimes along with Nic depending on whether or not Alessa had spent the night with him. He would go to work and if he didn't, he usually spent that time with Alessa if she wasn't working. Then he would pick his brother up and sometimes Nic. Dinner would be eaten with just his brother or the two added members. They would hang out some before going to bed sometimes with Alessa and sometimes without Alessa.

Of course, there were things that changed.

Dan was now also looking into where their mother might be and they had to update each other on anything they found. They hadn't gotten much further other than that they discovered that she had worked for Swucify for quite awhile even before she had married their dad.

Another thing that had changed were the calls from his dad each night. The phone was never answered. Instead he would listen to a voicemail of his dad begging him to give him a second chance.

Neither Dan or Logan wanted to.

So for now all those calls would be ignored until the foreseeable future.

"Shouldn't you maybe talk it out with your father? Maybe he could help," Alessa would say in way or another, but each time he cut her off. After five attempts, she gave up and allowed him to not pick up the phone without any comment.

That was something else that had changed as well. Alessa would often make calls at his place to her parents when their brothers weren't there.

Logan couldn't catch much of what she was saying to her parents but it seemed like they had gotten more comfortable with each other. The last two weeks, she was even laughing and smiling genuinely when she was talking to them.

Their relationship seemed to be getting better from the rather rocky start that they had. Perhaps the next time that they visited them, Alessa would feel a part of the family.

Overall everything was normal.

Therefore it was only natural for something to disturb that the peace that had settled over them.

"Okay, what is what you're not telling me," Logan exclaimed in the tiny cafe catching some attention from other people who quickly returned back to their own conversations.

Alessa had been clearly avoiding something. When he brought up his mom or her parents, she had tried to steer the conversation away to unrelated topic. Her foot was tapping nervously on the ground as her hands twiddled with the coffee cup.

There was something being kept from him.

"I guess that I would have to tell you eventually," she admitted.

Logan let out an exasperated sigh. No shit. "Can you tell me then? Did Elaine say something about my mom?" He asked. Her fingers traced some pattern on her cup. His hand reached over to pull the fingers away from the cup and he gave her a smile.

"It can't be that bad."

"I suppose not," Alessa finally admitting giving him a small smile. "Elaine is coming here in two days about my parents. She is just presenting me with some evidence and wanted to do it in person. Plus she is visiting some friends."

His eyebrow quirked up. "That's what's worrying you. It isn't like you're going to lose custody over Nic or anything like that."

"I know, but those meetings always kind of make me nervous."

Sympathy rose in him at the sight of the frown that was on her face, a rare sight. His custody over his brother was undisputed even though it was unofficial. However her custody over her brother could be taken away despite it being official.
