A Journey

Walking down a dirt path,
Alone. No food. No water.

And far beyond the forest trees,
A ruby waits for thee.

They say she's beautiful,
They say she's kind,
They say she looks like the stars from above and kisses you like rain drops from the skies.

You're slowly dying,
Barely making it by,
Passing tree by tree,
Rock by rock,
And still your feet move.

When the time has come,
And your face shall hit the floor,
You finally come to the end of your journey.

There! The ruby lies and waits for you! And you gently take her in your hands.

She looks how they say, and you stare in her eyes to find the moon looking back.

You lean in to kiss her lips.
Your last breath far away from energy now taking over.

But her eyes turn grey,
And shove you away,
And spit on you when you hit the floor.

She stands and says she's glad you came,
But only glad that you've freed her.

She flies away,
And leaves you in the woods,
With your last breath near once again.

You take your last breath,
And your eyes shut close,
As your soul drifts away to the stars.

For my very good friend, I wish you can forever smile without pretending once. (N.C.)
