These Broken Pieces

Chapter 9

"Who will I be? Its up to me. I get to make the future what I want to."

NAIAS POV

"hi Aaron it's Naia."

"oh, hi Naia. Are you okay?

Aaron always seemed so genuinely interested in how i'm doing.

"um can we meet up at the beach on the edge of town in 15 minutes? I really need to talk to you."

"sure"

"Aaron... thank you."

there was a moment of silence and I wasn't sure if he was still there but then he spoke up.

"you're welcome."

I decided to walk to the beach. The neighborhood was so pretty at night. it wasn't even that dark because of all the stars. I know a teenage girl shouldn't be walking around by herself at 11 at night but I couldn't help myself. I loved the night air.

I arrived at the beach and saw Aaron waiting in his car with his head down. he had enough sense to drive here.

he didn't see me so I crept up to the side of his window.

"boo!"

Aaron yelled so loud that the near by birds flew out of their trees. I started laughing like crazy.

"you scared me!"

"yeah I noticed. I think people on the other side of the world noticed"

Aaron opened his door and got out of the car.

"glad to see you've got your sense of humor back" he said pretending to be annoyed.

He stood beside me and we walked down the boardwalk. we stopped at a hill of rocks beside the shore and sat down.

The air was cool and it smelt like salt water and coconuts. It was silent except the sound of waves crashing at the shore. The night was perfect and if Aaron and I were together, it would have been romantic.

"So, what did you want to talk about?"

I took a long breathe before speaking. "Cole and Hilary came over earlier. They left right before I called you."

I told Aaron everything that happened. It felt nice to finally have someone to talk to that wasn't over tumblr. It felt nice to have a real friend.

Aaron let me talk without interrupting at all. when I was done, he looked up at me with wide eyes.

"so what are you going to do?"

I rubbed my temples "I don't know. What do you think I should do?"

Aaron looked me straight in the eyes "well, I think its important to forgive but I also think you deserve to have people that actually care about you and wouldn't abandon you at the slightest thing."

"thanks Aaron, you always know exactly what to say.'

Aaron smiled at me. his face was full of love and compassion.

We ended up sitting on those rocks and talking for hours. I spilled out everything that I had been holding in my whole life. I told him about my dad, my mom and everything that has ever happened in my life.

When I was done talking, he told me his depression story.

"when I was little my parents use to fight all the time. My mother was amazing but my father use to hit my mother and I. he was an alcoholic and when he drank, he developed horrible anger problems. One day I couldn't take it anymore. I couldn't stand seeing my mother cry so I called the police. It was really hard for me because when my father wasn't drinking, he was fine but I had to do it. My father has been in jail for 5 years now and the whole experience left me with horrible depression. I tried to kill myself 3 times. I started seeing a therapist last year and he has really helped me."

Tears started to form in his eyes.

"Aaron, I'm so sorry. I should have never asked"

"it's okay. It feels good to finally tell someone."

Hearing Aaron's story made me feel so bad. We had been focusing on my problems this whole time when Aaron has been going through so much.

I quickly wrapped my arms around Aaron. I held him tight so he would know that he could always talk to me when he needed help.

After a long hug Aaron pulled away, looked me in the eyes and kissed me. At first I was hesitant because my mind was still going crazy with emotions but I let it happen. Aaron is the only thing in my life that I'm sure of.

He's my rock.
