"So, when did you join the brotherhood?" Edward asked you, walking to the Bureau. It was a little further away from the coops, but that was to not arouse suspicions to Templars in the area.
"I honestly can't remember exactly; probably four or five years now," you guessed. "What about you?"

Edward bit his lip in thought. "Not long; probably six months."
"Oh! So still new, huh?" You would only ever use the word 'novice' in a teasing tone.
"You could say that." The two of you arrived at the bureau.

"Hey, Jack!" The bureau leader had a close relationship with you– due to the fact that he was your brother.
"Y/N! How are you?" He came around from behind the desk and engulfed you into a hug.
"Not bad, not bad," you chuckled. "This is Edward." You stood aside and gestured to your new acquaintance (and possibly your new mission buddy).

"Hello."

"Pleasure."

The men shook each other's hands firmly. "So," Jack changed the subject. "What can I do for you two?"
"We're looking for information on Robert Smith. You got any?" Your query was presented with a humorous tone.

"Robert Smith?" Jack's eyes widened. "You can't be serious. He's a psychopath, Y/N! You could get yourself killed!" He began to show his protective side for his little sister. "No," he continued. "You can't go."

"Oh, come on, Jack!" You half pleaded, half scolded. "Why not?"
"Like I said– the guy's a madman! He kills people like us!" He gestured to everyone.
"But how is he so dangerous?! How do you know?"

Jack sighed, brown eyes locking with yours. "Because I knew him."

You and Edward looked at each other. "What do you mean?"

"A while ago as a student, when I travelled to Columbia, I had to be stationed there to train like a few other assassins. You were lucky and did not need to come, as father was building a ship and wanted it to be yours. This meant that you needed to help.

"One man who trained alongside me was Smith. His accent was strangely like ours; crisp and articulated.

"Smith was good. Very good. He defeated his mentors with four moves; a parry, feigned thrust, a disarming sweep and a vicious strike down onto the shoulder with a shorter blade which he unsheathed without opponents noticing, which, when fighting real enemies, dug through their necks and yanked out, leaving necks open wide and the victims nearly headless. These moves were subject to change their order depending on his situation, which made him somewhat predictable, but altogether unexpected.

"I never trained with him, but sometimes I saw him training this execution on his own in the training ring. He used to send a nod in my direction, to which I responded with a wave of acknowledgment. He was deadly, to say the least.

"One day, our training groups were merged together. We were put into pairs to practice with, and I was unlucky enough to be partnered with the most feared student in the compound. Others were in the ring almost instantly, loosely blocking and attacking, as if they had no clue as to what they were doing. Soon, it was our turn.

"The action happened instantly after my mentor told us to begin. He thrusted his wooden sword towards my stomach which I blocked. This threw him off, because other students would be fumbling to defend themselves.

"He parried quickly when I struck at him, and attempted to disarm me in the same movement. His mistake was that his footing was wrong, so as I made the decision to draw back quickly to strike him on the arm, he stumbled over his feet, giving me the opportunity to press my sword against his chest.
